My DD was accepted & is oos, we want to visit the school this weekend & campus seemed very quiet. Do many students go home on the weekends after football season is over?
My son lives close by and doesn’t plan on coming home much. Many take heavier course loads in the spring since there isn’t football. We were on campus today and the study rooms were full and Starbucks was buzzing. There wasn’t a home basketball game so maybe some did go home. My son’s friends went hiking Friday night, slept late Saturday, studied and worked out Saturday and went out to eat Saturday night. Today he had some club meetings and studying. Let me know if you have other questions.
I think most campuses seem sleepy on weekends unless there’s a big sports game. The same thing was said by my husband this weekend when they went for Adm Students Day at USC. I suspect it’s like what @Baxter126 said, that the pace of kids is much slower and low key when no classes, even on Fridays there’s a difference.
@ny1517 , that’s great, congrats! may I ask the GPA and SAT/ACT for insight into who is getting accepted and notified right now?
@x2018x we were at admitted students day at USC as well this weekend. My DD has a 3.94gpa, a 33 ACT & heard from Clemson mid-Dec. We thought the campus was beautiful but quiet. I also said to my DD & husband that it was raining so we didn’t get the true vibe of campus.
@Baxter126 thank you for your response it was very helpful. what is the nightlife like for the students that are under 21?
I think that varies a lot per the student’s interests. There are a lot of evening classes and labs and tutoring sessions for most students. Study groups meet. Campus ministries and clubs have night meetings weekly and often have social events. My son plays a lot of pick up basketball at the rec center and works out, and has intramural games at night too. Free nights he studies or watches movies, plays video games in his dorm with friends, maybe goes downtown to eat or get coffee. As with any college, there are parties the students can find as well, but my son and friends don’t really do that.
I was accepted OOS and just recently visited. I was really impressed. Clemson is certainly in my top two! I know the housing opens up on February 1st, but my other school UT Austin hasn’t given me my major yet. I was an IS auto admission candidate, but they are taking their sweet time letting me know if I got into the engineering school or not. Does anyone know whether you can sign up for housing at Clemson without 100% commitment yet?
I would assume housing would not open up yet as RD is Feb 15th and not everyone has heard from them yet.
@momtofourkids The dates are on the website and I also received an email from Clemson reminding me that it opens on February 1st.
Strange
@TxBGA3 @Momtofourkids all I know for sure is that your place holder for housing was the date you sent your app in
@ny1517 - yes thanks - you are correct. I called and was told that and if you have a roommate in mind they advised to send in the contract connected to the person was applied first as their is a “time ticket” on it so those would be looked at first. So it seems EA does have priority for housing choice over RD
No, @Momtofourkids - Clemson does not have EA. A few higher merit students hear early with scholarship money, but the majority hear around Feb 15th. Your housing time slot is tied to when you submitted your application. Only that. Housing opens Feb 1st to connect with potential roommates, explore options (which you can do not) and prices but selection isn’t until May. You receive a time slot May 16th for a time in the next two weeks. You can sign up May 14th and it doesn’t affect your housing selection. Hope that makes sense.
@Baxter126 Off topic question but in looking at Clemson site it seems to indicate that students have unlimited free use of washers and dryers in the dorms. Am I reading that right?
@burghdad Yes, that’s correct!
Well at least that’s some added value
As we like to say, not “Free”, but it’s “included”
@Baxter126 I have a Senior there and have been many times. I would certainly not say that it is a sleepy campus. You do have to remember that many college kids dont wake up until noon-ish on weekends, and that parties dont start until past our bedtime (I know both of my kids always go to small pre-parties first, and dont really go out until like 11pm… on weekends you would not see tons of kids around, because not tons of kids live on campus after 1st year, the apartments all have pools etc… and kids are always out around there… and its not like the town is huge for them to be out strolling town, unless they were grabbing food or going to the bars…
@Baxter126 As always thank you for your insight. Can I ask you to elaborate on “Housing opens on Feb 1” What opens precisely? I am sure my student received an email but Mom and Dad don’t know. Also if you want to opine on some of the freshman housing options this out of state family is listening. You did previously mention that the Honors housing has a killer view of Death Valley
