Clemson -- anyone?! HOW to get there?

I'm really interested in Clemson, but it seems that there is not a convienent way to actually get there. (aka airport = like 2 hrs away)

anyone with any experience with clemson and transportation?
i'm from buffalo, NY fyi

thanks!!

The nearest airport is Greenville, SC - it's not a bad drive from there.

There's actually an Amtrak train once a day that you could take from NYC or Washington (about 11 hours scheduled from Washington). Supposedly gets you there at the ultraconvenient time of 5:39 am (but I'll bet it's usually closer to 7:30-8:00 by the time it arrives).

Also, there's probably some sort of shuttle service from the Greensville airport, and maybe from the Atlanta airport, too.

Amtrak long distance service in Virgina and the Carolinas is a disaster--utterly unreliable schedule. Don't bother with the train. (Too bad, since good train service would be a great alternative to driving and sometimes even to flying to many places.)

I know what you mean.... We live "due west" of Clemson but there is no direct route. To drive there, we have to go 50 miles further west, then go 200 miles south, then go several hundred miles east and then go north. We literally had to drive in a square route to get there!!! Crazy - since it is actually not very far away as the crow flies!

we went out of Atlanta (a bit of a drive), as it offered nonstop flights.

You could fly to Charlotte NC and catch a commuter to Greenville,SC or rent a car in Charlotte and drive a couple of hours down I-85 straight to Clemson.

Buffalo is no way near NYC (many many many hours)

GetOuttaBuffalo -im a fellow Buffalonian - actually from West Seneca -- Been in Charlotte NC for about 2 yrs. Im gonna try and take my son on a trip to see Clemson - i hear from Charlotte its about 2 hrs away.

Get out of Buffalo - there is nothing for the youth of today in Buffalo. Good luck to u.

My son just started at Clemson this fall (we are from Long Island, NY) & I have to admit we have not yet mastered the transportation issue. We went to visit twice before he started... once we flew into Atlanta, rented a car & drove (2hours); the other time we flew into Greenville, rented a car & drove (1hour). When we brought him for move-in, we drove from NY - took approx. 15 hours. The problem with flying is that flights to Greenville are quite expensive and the shuttle bus is also over $60 each way- to and from the airport. Atlanta & Charlotte are much cheaper to fly from, but I am not sure how to get him to/from the airport. I am hoping he will make some friends living in these areas who might be able to drop him off. For the Thanksgiving holiday, he is not coming home... he has to be back for Football game on Saturday, so there is not enough time. For Christmas break, will have him try the train. Another option is bus service. Check out www.collegetransit.com

Just want to note: Even with all the transportation problems, he seems extremely happy! I am sure he made the best choice & we will just learn to deal with the other things!
