Can anyone give some insight into the CBE? My son was invited to participate but is not sure he wants to join. He thinks he might rather try to live in Clemson House. Can anyone help us with pros/cons? Thank you.

Here’s some info on the CBE - [Clemson Business Experience : Clemson University](http://www.clemson.edu/cbbs/academics/aac/business/)

Honestly it sounds like a great program because it’s right next to the business school and usually there are a lot of interesting resources associated with these living learning communities and you’ll be living with people taking the same classes as you.

If you didn’t apply really early, you’re not going to get Clemson House so consider that as well.

Pierre…how early do you think you have to apply to get Clemson house? My son applied in September.

I think September is still good for Clemson House. Late October onwards and I would just assume that you aren’t going to get it. Still put it down if you want but make sure you like your other choices.

Dad… My son was in the CBE program and also lived in Clemson House sophomore year so I can give you a little insight on both.

CBE was a good choice because Benet Hall offers a great location to business courses and the stadium and is also co-ed. Given Clemson’s large student body, a big plus of CBE was that it gave him an immediate group to connect to that would be taking similar courses (at the time he was in Benet, the dorm also housed other Living and Learning Communities.) The program offers workshops such as interviewing skills, networking, dressing for success, etc. and members also engage in community service activities. Not a huge commitment, but there is some level of participation required. For those interested in assuming leadership roles, CBE has a student advisory board that communicates with CBEers, runs the meetings and organizes the activities. The group’s advisor, Suerae Wooten, is a great person and resource and really looks after the kids in CBE.

Clemson House was OK. The only real plus is the suite style living and there was a tiny kitchen area in their corner unit. Son and roommates didn’t like the location as much as Benet.

If you want to be in the CBE program, do you need to apply separately for it, or is it just a housing preference that you list? Either way, how hard is it to get into? I applied in early October, if that makes a difference.

How many hours per week would you estimate you are required to put into CBE activites? I don’t want to be so weighed down that I don’t have time for other clubs and sports.

Lastly, are the students in these dedicated learning communities considered to be geeks or are they just as well-balanced as the typical Clemson students? Requesting CBE kind of feels like asking to join a club when you haven’t even met any of the members…

I think it is just a housing preference that you list. Some LLC’s accept students randomly, some by application date, others who knows. University Housing pretty much lets LLC’s run their own application process so I’m not exactly sure what the process is for the CBE program.

I’m really not sure about some of the details about LLC’s or CBE specifically since I was rejected from RISE when I applied (sent in my application too late) but I’m sure Tiger10 can give you some details.

EDIT: This may answer some of your questions? http://www.clemson.edu/cbbs/academics/aac/business/faq.html
I’ll see if I can find anyone I know who lived in CBE
