Hi I’m an out of state resident applying to Clemson University. I was accepted to the Darla Moore School of Business at USC with a $40k scholarship and was deferred from NC State University.
My stats are: UW GPA: 3.33 SAT: 1300
EC’s: DECA Competitor, worked many jobs, internships, and more (I know Clemson doesn’t value ECs that much)
I know Clemson is very expensive but I love the school. Let me know if there is anything I can do to show them my interest!
@amxn15: Is the Univ. of South Carolina scholarship $40,000 per year or $10,000 per year for 4 years ? My impression is that it is $10,000 per year.
$10,000 per year. I also applied to Clemson University for Pre-Business as my first choice and Communications as my second choice.

I am following this post to see if you get in. I think my daughter will be similar stats (she’s a junior) and will be applying Graphics Comm or Sports Comm next year… She goes to a very highly regarded high school that doesn’t rank. What was your course rigor? # of AP classes?
@katcap Just FYI — Clemson will “estimate” your class rank if your school does not report a rank. It’s really not fair if you go to a very competitive HS where a bunch of kids go to Ivy’s. But, I had that conversation with them … didn’t get that far. lol Both GC and SC are usually closed out majors (limited admission). GL to your daughter. My HS junior son shows no interest, at all, and it’s driving me crazy!!
I took 5 AP Classes in high school. AP Psych, Human Geography, English Lang, Stat, Macro
@imstacey Clemson is able to assess a high school and, based on the profile that guidance counselor sends in, they can easily tell it’s a competitive high school and then will take that into consideration with regards to class rank.
Can someone tell me if I have a chance?
@Baxter126 Yes, but they still strictly adhere to their TOP 10% rule as far as criteria for merit $$$.
@Baxter126 This may not be true this year…I know a student who has been admitted with a letter promising some sort of scholarship. The student attends a competitive high school that does rank and the student falls just outside of the top 10%. The student has a strong but not highly competitive SAT score as well.
@NcAb11 Yes. I agree - I think your comment is directed to @imstacey. I have seen exceptions over the years for a variety of reasons. However, the strict top 10% rule could be referring to the highest level of merit OOS scholarship, $15,000.
Clemson made multiple changes this year regarding scholarships. I did not plug in all possibilities in the new Net Price Calculator, but saw instances where OOS students in the 10-15% range of their class are awarded merit scholarships.
Lol is anyone going to answer my question or…
@amxn15 My take is your stats are too close to make a guess. Luckily you will know in a few days. Wishing you the best!
Thank you so much! Not expecting much but keeping my fingers crossed (:
Update: I ran the “hack” and its looking like I wasn’t accepted. ): When I put my CU ID in it says “unable to determine status”. A lot of my friends put their stats in and it said something about their acceptance letter.
UPDATE: I put the wrong CU ID in and this time it says “Enter Acceptance Letter Code”
Does this mean I was accepted?
^ I put the wrong code in at first and it said “Unable to determine status”. This time I put the right code in and it says “Enter Acceptance Letter Code”
