I do think will all have to wait for clemson to award the amounts. Guessing ahead of time may only lead to disappointment. We have no idea if the award numbers have changed from last years, as they have adjusted (downward) last year. And may continue to adjust downward. I do not believe clemson historically redistributes the monies as kids decline.
That is just crazy, your son looks like a great candidate. I would have him email the admissions officer and see if they consider LOCI’s. I know UGA says if you accept the spot on the waitlist, they assume you are still interested. Good luck - I hope he has some good other options, I have to think he would with a profile like that.
Ridiculous your son didn’t get in
Did you read his Common App essay and did he get his application in on time?
Applied first week in November. His Common App essay is very well written IMO. He had 2 English teachers read over it. He wrote very passionately about his private school closing at the end of his junior year and starting over in a public school for the first time. The pros and cons and the coming together of the community, supporting each other on their new journey. Clemson was his safety. He was selected for an interview with MIT and applied to a few reach schools but that was all just a “you only live once” scenario, so let’s give it a shot since it’s test optional.
Was merit already listed in the letters? If there was no merit in the letter does that mean there is no merit forthcoming?
Thank you for your kind words.
That is absolutely bizarre. Does he have some solid options at least?
I have heard some schools do not accept candidates that they feel are overqualified and may just be using it as a safety…not sure if that helps or hurts with your attempt to understand but that could be what occurred. I would imagine he would do very well with many schools so I hope it works out.
The problem we ran into when he transferred to the public school the counselor refused to rank him saying he jumped ahead of his kids!!! I sent an email to all the schools my son applied to explaining the refusal but who knows if that matters. I actually just checked his rank and he is 2/510. It breaks my heart that we were at the mercy of this counselor.
This is absolutely terrible, have you tried to talk with the school administrators? Also if you shoot admissions office an email and explain your situation, I think they’ll be more than happy to help you and your son. Best of luck to you both
Gotcha. Thanks.
Just an FYI…In regards to no mention of scholarship/merit on acceptance letter, did an online chat with Finaid dept and they said that does not necessarily mean that the accepted student will not receive merit aid. They are still in the process of awarding fin aid for prospective students and award packages will be emailed to students in March.
Also asked, if researched what student rank is (as our school does not rank) would it be a good idea to forward to admissions/fin aid for consideration? Reply was, this is not necessary as admissions is very familiar with looking at academic records, course loads and high schools students are coming from.
Both of my kids applied to Clemson. Only one of them has heard back. So strange? Any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks;)
Oh goodness. This was us last year, but it was all via mail. One son got his Saturday, the other son got his Monday. It was brutal. I’m sorry…no advice, but I feel your pain! Did they submit apps the same day?
I think it’s fair to contact the admissions office and see if they will discuss his application and why he was waitlisted. I’m surprised he wasn’t at least offered TTSB. His stats are very good. But I will say these decisions are really unpredictable. I’ve gotten acceptances and honors college invites at some strong schools, but I’ve also been deferred and waitlisted at others that are similar and even lower in the rankings. You can’t ever tell what a particular college is looking for. I would just want to maybe make sure there isn’t some error in his file.
I thought so but we will see. I will give it a few days. Thanks for responding.
My D21 with 35ACT and 4.0UW has not heard anything. Portal still says awaiting decision. She applied directly with Clemson app and not common app. Does anyone think that might be a reason she hasn’t heard yet? Very strange. Her D18 sister with identical stats (actually a couple less AP classes) heard in November and got max merit money. So we are kind of at a loss.
So sorry. That sounds like a sticky situation to say the least. Does your son who has amy received his decision still have the “awaiting decision” banner? Best of luck to him.
Recently waitlisted but I’m super interested in/feel I would be a good fit for the Bridge program even if that means changing my major. Anyone have any advice on how to go about looking to possibly get into that?
