We live in NC and my son should have the stats to be accepted to UNC. He is considering majoring in Computer Science. I'm curious about opinions on UNC for Computer Science vs. NC State vs. Clemson (assuming IS tuition) vs. Univ. of Alabama with large merit scholarship.

I really don’t know too much about computer science programs but the computer science program at UNC-Chapel Hill does not appear to be accredited by ABET (Accreditation Board For Engineering And Technology) while the programs at Clemson, NC State and Alabama are. I’m not sure how important ABET accreditation is for computer science but for engineering it is. UNC-Chapel Hill however appears to be a reputable program so there’s probably not much worry going there either.

Assuming cost is about the same:

UNC

NC State

Clemson

Alabama

Again there are other factors like cost, travel, personal preferences that you’ll have to weigh in.

Let me know if you have any questions about Clemson!
