Ya sorry guys i should have put it on this thread too. I got in. So excited. Thx for the encouragement! Now i just gotta make the hard choice between here and VTech (assuming i get in there) ;)

i got accepted....93.3 average 1250 sat

I found one thing odd about clemson admission my D got. she was admitted to a specific major, and booklet that came with it said that switching to a different major would not necessarliy be easy. this is the only school of may we are involved in that seems to do this. I am not talking about engineering vs. art or science vs. communications. I am talking about a specific major like english or history or biology.
Anyopne have any comment or advice about this?. My daughter hasn't a clue at this point what she will want to major in.

Denied.... great...

Kaninao89, what are your stats?

prothero, what did you put for your major?

Congratulations on all of the new acceptances. Let us know where you decide to go.

To those denied- I was denied from many schools last year (like 5), so I understand your sadness. You will all do great things at other schools, and if you still long for Clemson, you can always transfer. It seems like the school is trying to increase the stats of those entering, and possibly weighing those heavily. You are all intelligent people, and I'm sure you will be happy wherever you end up.

I don't think it's accurate to say that a school is weighting things differently from one year to the next -- as the quality and reputation of ANY school goes up based on quality of student body, applicants with stronger scores will apply, thereby increasing the quality of the overall pool, thereby the quality of the overall student body -- I would advise everyone not to get bogged down in "my sister didn't have as good of quants as I do now, and she got in and I didn't" type thinking. Chances are, there are many seniors at Clemson now who probably would not get in were they applying now, four years later, with the same stats.

Also do NOT take this personally -- if you don't get into Clemson (or wherever), all it means is that after they entered your scores into a system, your APPLICATION did not emerge in the top cut -- it does not mean that you are somehow lesser of a person.

The admissions director made a good quote in that newspaper article this past week -- "It does not matter WHEN you get INTO Clemson, but THAT you get OUT of Clemson." You want Clemson? Go somewhere else, excel there for a year, then transfer!

He's pretty excited in his quiet way. Right now he's has nice choices (Elon, Tulane, and Clemson) and hopefully will continue getting more good news.

I was not trying to imply that Clemson has changed their admissions process from past years. My attempt was to point out that Clemson seems to weigh GPA and test scores heavily compared to some other schools who may require multiple essays, recommendations, interviews, etc. As you pointed out, it is getting more difficult to gain admittance to Clemson.

is it true that clemson does not factor extra curriculars into their decision?

I'm sure they do somewhat, but it seems that stats are stressed heavily.

I think we are forgetting that Clemson, like other schools, are seeing how well you perform academically. can you do that work at Clemson! My daughter also had the typical activities, NHS, Beta Club - but every student in the country has that, so they have to see what sets you apart. at a place like Clemson, where research is king, they need to see what you are capable of academically, not because of what you did after class. now there are some schools that value that, because that is the student they are recruiting.

however, mitch and intheknow are right. this is not a personal decision. you are not a bad person. your application was denied, not you! if clemson (or any school) is truly in your heart, you WILL get there!
