My son is an OOS admitted student and we are looking for advise on dorm selection. Any input would be greatly appreciated. One of the dorms we are looking into is the new CUBS LLC at Douthit Hills. Apparently 90 spaces are available for Business students. Sounds like a great concept, and I love the idea of a brand new dorm, but the location in Douthit Hills (a bit outside of the center of campus) has me concerned. Any and all input is welcome. Thanks!
@conorsdad we are in the same situation. We are from NJ and my son is a business major as well. He initially wanted CUBS when they were on the west side of campus, but now that they are on the east side he no longer wants it. I called housing on this and they said CUBS would have to be first choice for housing selection if they were to choose that at all. She said it is a 25 minute walk to the stadium and Fike from Douthit.
I highly recommend DH, it is awesome ! Many freshman and upperclass will move in there in August. My daughter is just finishing her freshman year , she living in DH apartments for next year. She’s very excited! They are not too far, the location has its own workout facilities, Starbucks, other food options. Remember classes are in many locations and the campus is very compact easy to walk, bike or hop on the bus. As an OOS student she doesn’t come home very often we’re in NC 4 + hr drive, having a beautiful place to live, study and play is very important . I also highly recommend Core. She lives there now and has enjoyed that spot.
The location of DH is great. It’s right across from Bowman field and Tillman Hall and just a few minutes from Hendrix and the horseshoe (Bryan Mall area). Maybe 10 min to Core and 25 min walk to the stadium is generous. I’d say more like 15-20 min depending on what side of the stadium. Is there a specific reason he doesn’t want to be on the East side? I would agree with what BeachtimeinNC said above about Douthit and the fact that classes and meetings etc are all over campus.
Thanks for the replies. Our only “concern” with Douthit - and it is a very mild one - is the location. The newness of the facility, though, coupled with the convenience of a gym there, is a big plus. Just curious about other dorms on campus. What is the condition of the Horseshoe dorms?
Horseshoe dorms are older, but just fine. More like a traditional dorm you’d think of. Hall baths, which the university cleans for the kids. In any suite style dorms, the kids are responsible to clean their own bathrooms. You can see pictures on the Clemson housing website.
@Baxter126 I just received a notification for Spiro at Clemson. It looks like it is an LLC like CUBS but for business entrepreneuial leadership interest etc. Are you aware this option? I cannot find anything other than the stadium suites for sophomore and above. It says this is for Freshmen and will be in Core A 3rd floor. Hmmmm I tried calling, but the campus is closed today due to the weather.
Core A , if 340 is available is one of the best rooms it has 3 floor to ceiling windows. A bigger closet and the room also has more sq. Footage. Great Death Valley view! Make sure to look closely at the floor plans when selecting rooms as not all rooms are identical. Clemson lost power today, classes were cancelled and Core is open w/ food options .
Are you looking for LLC called IDEAS it’s located
The application link is also on the housing page

Only 24 beds very small community
@BeachtimeinNC that is exactly what I was looking for, thank you sooo much!!
Glad to help it’s a lot of info and decisions between now and Aug. Go Tigers
Are all of the Core A windows floor to ceiling? Possibly 4th or 5th floor? 440 or 540??or others?
Also-do we loft the beds ourself or how does that work?
I’ve been wondering about the distance of Douthitt from everything, there isn’t anything wrong with a 25 min across campus walk—lol…they could always uber if they get up late for class-ha!
No , not all rooms- only all windows in Core A rooms are 240 ,340,440,& 540 are ones I know, there’s also smoke stacks in that area so the lower floors maybe partially obstructed. My daughter lives in one of those this year. In the honors sections on the other side of the bldg there’s also those only a few rooms with all windows. The majority of rooms have regular windows it’s also shown on the floor plans. The rooms with all 3 windows also come with blinds installed absolutely needed with the beautiful sunshine. The furniture in Core has beds that can be lofted all you need is some muscle power. We have to de-loft the beds during move out soon. If ur student wants a side added so they don’t roll out of the bunk they have them just have ask at desk.
In my opinion perspective of the campus is key with DH, if it’s in your budget it’s a phenomenal place to live. The bathrooms are much better situation as well, have privacy. Clemson is investing in upgrading their housing options to attract students. In the DH upperclass apartments the students have full beds and private bedrooms.
@mweb136 In the past that has only been for upper classmen. Sounds like maybe they are opening it up for freshman. Let us know what you find out!
@BeachtimeinNC you mentioned the bathrooms are much better in DW with privacy. Arent they exact the same as the bathrooms in Core A?
@BeachtimeinNC How many sinks are in your daughter’s room? I believe the trade off of for the big windows, is one less sink? Most Core C and D quad suites have two sinks.
There’s no sinks in the rooms in Core A. Yes, Wet core bathrooms are in DH east just like Core A , private shower and toilet with a door on halls, sinks in a shared area , much better than the hall baths I had in college all 5 showers next two each other with no doors. Plus they are cleaned by the university.
I am looking for someone who may have experience with either the Spiro/IDEAS LLC or the Wellness LLC. Want to understand time commitment and whether it will fit in my first semester engineering curriculum.
Heard from the housing office yesterday that if there is more interest in Spiro/IDEAS LLC, they will open up more rooms…just an FYI.
@BeachtimeinNC Would you happen to know the room numbers that have the 3 windows in Core B and C? It looks like it might be 274B/374/474/574 from the floor plans. Is that correct? Do you know the view out of those windows?
@ProudSCMom for Core C yes #74B rooms look to have the 3 windows . You can check the Google views in street mode and see the area. The higher floors will have better DV views. There is no rooms as Core B is the Fresh Food co dining facility etc.
