I have been looking into engineering and am interested in the major, however I am not entirely sure of what I would want to major in. I was thinking of applying to my colleges as undecided. I have been searching to see if clemsons bioengineering/engineering in general was a limited course which I may not be allowed to choose later in the year. Also, would it be much harder applying to Clemson if I was to apply to its engineering program? I know it is an amazing program and am not sure if it is much harder to her into than other majors. Thanks in advance!!
Clemson’s engineering program is one of the more competitive majors. Everyone admitted to the engineering program is required to take a pre engineering curriculum the first year where they give you exposure to the many different types
of engineering to help guide you it your best fit . Are you a rising senior ? What state are you from? Stats ? Clemson has become more competitive to get into even for instate students over the past year. Applications go live Aug 1 and housing is based on application date, not acceptance dates . Also to be eligible for merit, you need to have everything in by Dec, just FYI. It’s a great school. My son has been granted provisional acceptance for already . We still have a lot to think about. They have a lot of different majors that may interest you. Go online and search their majors. Good luck in whatever you decide .
I’m out for state from New Jersey, I have. 4.23 gpa and a 2000 sat score and a rising senior. I’m between a couple majors now but that is why I wanted to apply undecided. The only thing is if I end up applying undecided and choose to major in engineering would I still be able to do so? Or do they have a limit on the major/ do they require you to apply right away.
My son is an Eng major heading into sophomore year. Engineering (at Clemson and every university) has many course requirements and the path begins immediately upon matriculation. So, I would suggest that you: 1. Look at the requirements on the College of Engineering section of the website so you can see what your coursework would be. 2. Apply for the Engineering program. It would be significantly easier to change majors out of Engineering than to try and catch up getting into it later. As noted, Engineering majors take several Engineering pre-reqs freshman year… so you should get an idea if you’re enjoying that type of work, or not, pretty quickly.
With those stats would also suggest you look at the Calhoun Honors College info on the Clemson site. That might offer some opportunities that appeal to you. Applying on the early side is a good idea. If you have not had a chance to visit, definitely encourage you to do so. Our son fell in love with the campus within minutes of arriving there.
We are from the Mid Atlantic region and there are many students at Clemson from this area. We are a very happy Clemson family. Good luck with your decision.
I second everything osaycanuc stated. Look at Calhoun Honors. Quite competive and some good perks including priority registration for classes, honors housing and additional merit opportunities .
