I’m currently applying to Calhoun Honors College. Do the people reviewing the Honors application also have access to/look at my application to Clemson for general admissions? I don’t want to repeat information that was on my Clemson application if they look at it, but if they don’t, I don’t want to leave out information that was on the general admissions application. Thanks!
Consider taking the opportunity to call the Honors College to ask your questions. They are very helpful and kind people and would likely have a lot more time to spend with an applicant now (vs in the spring.) If anyone at Clemson will make note of indicated interest it will be the Honors College since there are relatively so fewer applicants to work with. To try to answer your question, I believe all the Honors College will check regarding your original application is to see that you are accepted to the University, which is required to qualify as an applicant to the Honors College.
My son is a freshman in the Honors College. Clemson was not his first choice and he reluctantly applied to the Honors College since I insisted. He applied fairly late and still was accepted. We visited for the first time after he was in Calhoun and he fell in LOVE. Since then, we have realized the tremendous benefit of being an Honors College student - priority registration. It is not easy to get S2 classes as a non-honors Freshman. I think Honors Freshman even registered before non-honors Sophomores.
To continue in the Honors College, students must maintain a min. 3.4 GPA, which has my Engineering son a little anxious since he been horribly sick with strep throat and mono since mid-Nov and finals are now, but it looks like he will be fine.
Back to encouraging you to call the Honors College - the helpful advice and the way they generously spent time with me on the phone so many months ago is indicative of the overall atmosphere at Clemson. From our short experience, we have realized it truly is a kind of “family” and a really nice place (although a huge place) to attend college. My son would not transfer to his original ED choice school if they called him and offered him a guaranteed spot. He is #AllIn
Good luck to you!!
Honors freshman parent here. Agree w luvslabs. Few pointers regarding the honors app. It is not redundant to regular app. Honors consideration only happens after candidate is accepted to clemson. They want to get a true sense of the student. I believe my son submitted high school work, a fun essay, and a description of himself. Resume. I believe updated grades are sent from the high school to accompany the honors app. Be sure to double check sent and ensure accuracy of information. Unfortunately mid-year transcripts have more errors than end of year.
When in doubt, fill everything out.
Can anybody on this thread share how notifications are delivered regarding Calhoun Honors? Is the website portal updated or is it an email/snail mail notification?
Good questions. I don’t know either, but maybe someone can chime in.
Decision notifications are distributed by email which directs the applicant to the ApplyWeb application status portal. The decision letter appears in the status portal when decisions are issued. Hard copy notifications are also mailed to those that are accepted.
Anybody seen anything that might indicate that we’re not going to hear from Calhoun this week?? Very excited to hear!
@HokieCrazy My daughter hasn’t heard anything and tonight went back through ApplyWeb to make sure (for the thousandth time) that everything was submitted back in September! Does anyone know how they will hear? The ApplyWeb portal? iRoar? Clemson email? Their regular email? Their website says notified by Feb. 15.
@HappyIn2008 explained the notification process in post #6 above. Sounds like we’ll hear this week.
Has anyone heard anything yet?
I see the updated the a webpage where Calhoun accepted students can go.

The waiting is the hardest part!
The waiting certainly is unsettling, especially with their word choice on the website stating, “by February 15,” implying that decisions should be coming in the days before. Fortunately, we will not be waiting much longer, regardless of whether they release early or not!
Was there a separate application for the honors college or did you just have to check a box on the application?
@DrSenioritis There was a separate application for the honors college. If you would like to apply regular decision, per se, to the college, you can do so by March 1st I believe.
@nccollegedad13 It looks like the past two years they released their decisions on February 15th, no earlier. Hopefully, that is not the case this year, but we’ll have to wait and see.
Ok ty
come on, come on, COME ON!!! Let us know!!!
@HokieCrazy I agree! The waiting is a killer!!
Decisions are posted! My son was declined.
@HokieCrazy As was I; are you planning on applying for reconsideration?
