Clemson January 2022 Admission Group

This group is for students admitted to Clemson in January 2022. It’s a place to connect, share information, and get to know each other in advance.

Thanks for starting this thread! Looking forward to connections and insights…

Thank you for starting this thread. My son is heavily leaning toward accepting in January. I spoke with admissions earlier to ask a few logistical questions. Wondering if anyone else is interested in moving to Clemson in August and taking classes at Tri County Tech for first semester. Would need a six month lease on an apt (which admissions tells me is not too difficult to find) and a roommate. Anyone else have this idea? I’m thinking this might be a great way to acclimate and not miss a football season! Mine is ready to move along . Currently enrolled at Auburn

Similar thinking over here, my son’s been in touch with a couple friends who are at Clemson now and they suggested the Tri County option. All new thinking over the past 24 hours…good to be connected on this

Interesting idea - my son was thinking about doing a gap semester, but I’ll mention this to him. Might be a great way to get integrated before January. Might also be hard to get him to move on campus after the freedom of apartment living. lol

Thank you for staring thread. My daughter will be accepting January admission and will most likely take classes locally Syracuse, NY area. Congrats and good luck to all

My daughter just got in for January as well! She is so excited! Not sure what she will do for the semester. Thinking maybe a semester at sea or a mission trip. Looking for a good fit.
Will they have housing waiting for them on campus in January? How will that all work? So excited for her.

My daughter just got in for January as well. She will be attending a different school in the fall and switching to Clemson in the Spring. She is very unsure how to make friends and find a roommate for the spring semester, is there a different facebook group or should she use the same one, anything will help!

Good question about FB group. I joined the Clemson Off Campus Housing, Subleases, Roommates, Apartments group just to see options for housing. I also requested to join the Class of 2025 group but am thinking that will be more noise about the Fall and not apply just yet to the Spring admits. Could be worth it to start a group just for the January admits, but not sure yet. We found each other here because of the waitlist forum, but thinking now I’m not sure how many would see this new forum if they weren’t aware of that one. My son is connecting with the admissions office today or tomorrow so if I get any guidance or ideas I’ll be happy to share.

We are from Virginia and my son was also accepted for January 2022 start. Has anyone considered doing a study abroad program this fall? I am not sure if Clemson would accept the credits. If not studying abroad, my son might also be interested in an apartment near campus for the fall. We are still trying to think through the options. Thank you for creating this thread.

If my daughter takes classes in the fall elsewhere, is she considered a transfer student when she enrolls in the spring? Concerned how that affects getting assigned a dormitory. She did join the Facebook group and has already connected with a few other January admits.

In the FB page for 2025 parents I came across this post and page that was created

Admissions told me they will have housing on campus for January students. Can anyone else weigh in on what they’ve been told?

My son’s admissions counselor at Clemson told me she’s planning to bring January admissions students together to connect them and create a group. I’m not sure if she meant all students or the ones in her group. Ask you admission contact to do likewise and hopefully a larger group can be formed. This would allow them to get to know each other, scope for roommates, etc. Some new January students will room together and some will be assigned to a room with a fall student whose roommate rushed, moved off campus etc. Hope this helps.

You can go to the Clemson website to see what will transfer. I’m sure admissions could guide you, too. We are also looking at gap semester options - it’s a rare opportunity to get four months to pursue a passion ,etc. Good luck!

Thank you for starting this thread. My son is also going to Clemson in Spring 2022. The offer came as a bit of a surprise and so we are still trying to figure things out.
Is there anything he needs to do now other than figure out how to spend his semester “off”? I believe he indicated that he would be accepting the offer on his portal.
Do you think he will get a package in the mail like the fall admits did?
I had spent so much time understanding the fall admit process but I know nothing about spring, deposits, housing…any advice is welcome.

Hi - I think you highlighted the biggest choice that seems to the the first one to make, and that is whether he is going to do a gap semester or take classes for credit. Seems like many are doing the gap approach, traveling, working, mission/service trips, etc. The advantage to that is a fresh start with guaranteed housing, most likely on campus with other freshmen. Others (like my son) are opting to move to Clemson in August, take classes at nearby Tri-County Tech to keep pace with the Fall admits, then start in January with the full Clemson experience. We have landed on the choice to get an apartment off campus for the full year as once he takes classes he is considered a transfer student without guaranteed housing. I would not expect a package in the mail like the Fall admits, nor will there be any merit-based financial aid. They will reach out to him in late Sept/early Oct with more information about how to enroll. What you are probably also gathering from finding this group/thread is that while the admissions office can be very helpful, this group and the other Facebook groups, are most useful in sharing resources, ideas and plans for all our January admits.

Thank you.

How did you/your son get together with a counselor? I’ll be attending in the spring as well, but I’m not sure what current steps I should be taking at this moment.

If you hadn’t connected during the admissions process with a counselor you can just go on the website and look up the counselor that is assigned to your state or region. My son’s counselor that’s currently advising him on the logistics now is the same one he met when we did a self-guided tour last November. Nothing to do regarding your January start at Clemson for now, at least until late September/early October. For those looking to take some classes that will transfer then there is that to set up, and if moving to Clemson in August to take classes at Tri-County then there is housing to sort out. That’s the path we are taking.
