I had a question about the clemson pro golf management program and if anyone has a s/d in the program currently or if someone knows about can help me that would be great. I was wondering how hard is it to get into the pgm program? I applied to this program before dec. 1 and i have a 6 handicap (8 handicap is the max for this program). It says on their website they only allow 20 applicants in each year, so do they choose who gets in based on academics or how low their handicap is? I was already admitted to Penn State'sGolf Management program so i do have options. Im from ny. Here are my academic stats:

GPA: 93.3 ( school doesnt do weighted or unweighted or 4 pt scale)
SAT: 620 cr 630 math 560 wr
Extra: decent number of clubs, other dumb stuff
work: volunteer at First Tee

From what I see, it shouldn't be a problem. My son (currently in the Clemson program) was over 1200 on SATs, handicap of 6+, played on the school team, various clubs, etc... and 92+ academic average. He was accepted at Penn State as well when he was looking, but went South to have a longer playing season. He enjoys Clemson a lot.

I think it should probably read "accepts 20", not only allow 20 applicants.

Also, we're out of state for both schools, neither was particularly forthcoming w/ aid.

thanks doug, i was accepted into the clemson pgm last friday. I was also accepted into penn state's program like your son was. I am from ny and the idea of a longer playing season appeals to me also. Im visiting clemson this week and plan on playing the walker course there. Im not really set on one or the other so maybe this trip will help me decide which one to go to. thanks again for your input.

We're from the Syracuse area. There are several Clemson PGM kids from NY/NE. The pace is a little slower in SC than you might be used to (or want), though my son likes that. It's smart to visit both schools while in session, they're big. Clemson has about 25K students, Penn St I believe around 40k.

Talk with as many people as you can at each place, administrators, PGM students, etc... The more input you have, the better. As I recall, one of the things both schools implied was that it would be difficult to start at one PGM school and transfer to another and still graduate within the same timeframe. The inference being that the way each schools program was set up you would be off track at another.

For full disclosure, my nephew goes to Penn St. so I'm not going to trash one school over another. Besides no single school is ever the best choice for everyone. Enjoy your visit(s).

Clemson's 2007 Fall Enrollment: Total= 17,585 Undergraduate=14,639 Graduate=2,946. So while it is a larger school, it is not one of the largest by any stretch. And the small town atmosphere gives it the feeling that it is smaller than it is. Yet Greenville is less than an hour away, Anderson with most major chains is 20 minutes, and Atlanta and Charlotte are about 2 hours. You've got artsy Asheville 90 minutes away, and historic Charleston is about 4 hours.

I know this is a little out dated but i thought i would try anyways. I too applied for clemson PGM with similar stats (3.9 unweighted gpa with 8 duel enrollment courses and 30 on the act, 6 handicap). I was just wondering as a person in the program, how do my stats rank up against others in clemsons program??
