Hi! I’m going to Clemson in the fall and I definitely want to rush. Does anyone on here know how competitive rush at Clemson is? Is it as competitive as schools like Alabama or Ole Miss? I’m getting recs and I’m from the South, so I have a pretty good idea of how rush works. My worst fear is just not getting a bid anywhere or at a house that I like.
It’s very competitive. Clemson has a terrible bid percentage at 73.4%. Whereas schools such as Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina have about a 98% bid rate. Meaning, of the girls that begin rush, how many are offered bids at the end of recruitment.
those percentages may be true ^ but clemson rush is not as materialistic and shallow as alabama, ole miss and uga. it they might have a lower bid rate but thats probably because theres fewer sororities and just not enough spots for everyone who rushes.
We are from NY and not as familiar with how Rush works, can someone elaborate on the letters of rec?
Here is the website with all the information on recruitment. https://www.clemsonpanhellenic.com
Most schools try to add houses if there are more people going through recruitment than spots available, and the 73% might have been in a transition year. If a house is being added, it usually does a separate ‘mini rush’ in the week after formal recruitment ends. The new house can start with 250! Those are probably 250 who went through the formal process but waited for the new house. It’s complicated and crazy, but works out.
In the south letters of recommendation are more important than in other places. Usually it only guarantees you and invitation to the first set of parties, and really I don’t know of any college where anyone who signs up for recruitment isn’t invited (ie, it gets you nothing!). However, in the south the letters are required to keep you moving through the process. You can get them by contacting any local alum chapter of the house or the national organization. For my sorority, all letters for the southern chapters go through the national headquarters. All they do is take a resume from the recruit and pass it on. (Yes, seems stupid to me too).
A new house was added last year, Pi Beta Phi, and started with about 250 girls. They have now had spring and fall recruitment an added to their numbers.
Good luck to you. I am not a Clemson alum (my son will be a freshman in the fall) but I can write a recommendation to Kappa Kappa Gamma if anyone needs one.
@twoinanddone thanks for the info, as a I follow up, does my daughter need a letter of rec for every house? I was in a sorority but letters of rec were never required. My sister is an Alpha Phi alum and would write one of the letters.
@adtuck thank you!
This is from the panhellenic website above, but I just wouldn’t want anyone to miss the early move in date for sorority recruitment…

Does anyone have any info regarding fraternity pledging? I check the Clemson Greek website, but it looks like the dates are from 2016? Do the boys begin the Rush process early as well? My son is very interested in Greek life, but we are from NY and are not familiar with the process.
Fraternity recruitment starts later and they do not move in earlier. I’m sure there will be more information later but its less structured than the girls. Remember too that orientation is a great time to find out about things like that.
@Baxter126 Thank you! Since we are going from out of state, already trying to figure out travel plans. Appreciate the heads up on the move-in date!!
@adtuck @ny1517 Would y’all be able to write me a rec letter? I can email my resume! They are due August 3rd and I am on the hunt for some rec letters! Thanks!
@adtuck Hi, I am going to be a freshmen at Clemson this fall and I’m going out for sorority rush. Could you please write me a recommendation possibly for Kappa Kappa Gamma? I can e-mail you my resume. Thanks! Caleigh
@ny1517 Do you think you sister could possibly write a rec for me for Alpha Phi? My mom was a Phi Mu at Alabama and she’d be happy to write recs but that doesn’t help at Clemson since there is not a Phi Mu chapter.
Hi! My daughter is going to rush this year. I have not been able to find people for rec letters. Could you possibly write one for her for KKG…I would really appreciate it. Oh…and it’s due Aug.2. I know, I’m asking a lot! Thanks!!! I can send resume and whatever you need.
Hi! @adtuck I know this is two years later from when you posted you comment but I was just looking at all the sorority information because I will be an incoming student at Clemson in the fall. Is there anyway you could possibly write me a recommendation for Kappa Kappa Gamma? I can provide you with my email and all other needed information, thanks! -Amanda
@adtuck Hi! I’m so excited to attend Clemson next year as a freshman! I was wondering if you were still willing to write a sorority rec for me? Thanks!
Hi! My daughter is planning on registering for fall recruitment. Are there any alumnae that would be willing to write letters of recommendation for her? I am a Delta Zeta alum and would be happy to write in exchange. Thank You!
