Clemson Summer Opportunities

Does anyone know of good summer opportunities for a rising senior at Clemson? I am trying to do something on campus next summer to get a better feel for the school. I participated in a summer scholars camp last summer at another university and had an incredible time and was wondering if Clemson offered anything similar.

@RightyRiper , yes, Clemson does a Summer Scholars for high school students if that’s what you mean. My DS did it last summer and had a good experience. We are out of state too, and he did the Pack Camp. Take a look on the Clemson website and search for the program. Should be fairly easy to find. It did give him a great sense of the school and he’s awaiting a decision now, as he felt it was one of his top choices now.

@x2018x Yes, i have seen their information on the website but still have some simple questions about the program. 1. How big is the camp, like how many other high school students are participating with you? Another is are the students generally rising seniors or is it more suited for younger students? Any information is greatly appreciated!

@RightyRiper My DS Pack Camp had around 12 kids which were rising 11 and 12th graders. I think it was reserved for those top two grades. And I think each subject camp has those age designations. I specifically remember thinking that was good for DS since he’d be one of the oldest and that he would not want to be hanging out with too many younger folks. The idea was to get him thinking about college more, what it’s like to live in a dorm, what Clemson is like, etc. So younger kids might not be so focused. That being said, he had a great time and didn’t feel too old at all. I think he spent the vast majority of time with his Pack Camp classmates but all the campers ate together and did some relaxing evening activities all as a big group too. I would recommend it! It was very far away for us (live in VA) but we drove him down and had him fly home. It was a great experience all around, and accomplished our main goal which was to introduce college life to him in a small way. If you have further questions, feel free to ask!

If I didn’t make it clear, the camp he was involved with had about 12, but there were other subject camps too and so not sure what the overall # was. I’d say around 12 for each subject as an estimate, so you can see how many will be held each particular week to get a better idea.

It’s very well organized!

@x2018x by PACK camp do you mean a camp for students interested in Packaging Science?

@pkgny2022 Yes, Pack Camp meaning packaging camp where they use engineering, science, marketing and creative skills.

@x2018x is your S looking to major in Packaging Science? My D got accepted for Packaging Science and we just put in the deposit!

@pkgny2022 Well, first he needs to be accepted (smile). If he is, he will go in as business, but he did like packaging science as a potential. The courses that I don’t think gel well with him are the science/bio classes it looks like you need to take early on. It sounds like a really, really cool program and lots of potential for jobs afterwards!
