Clemson Waitlist 2022 (2026)

URM is a hook, like being a recruited athlete. It makes a difference.

My daughter was waitlisted 4.0 as well, 4 years student council, sports, community service, college dual enrollment Had communications as first and sports communication second. We will wait it out, not quite sure what they are looking for…I too thought, maybe the major presenting restrictions?
Her first choice,so hanging in there,

I know sports communications is capped, not sure about communications. Is the 4.0 unweighted? No B’s? TO?

Yes, both of those are capped majors. And Sports Communication only accepts about 20 students per year with many of those spots going to recruited athletes who chose the major - so nearly impossible to get into. Has your daughter spoken with Admissions about potentially changing her major? Would think it would be very hard to get off the waitlist with both choices being capped majors.

My daughter had a second choice of undeclared on her application. They didn’t default to it,

My daughter had gpa 4.34 1200 sat 6 AP and enough tech credits to technically be a sophomore. Volleyball 3 years, student government , all the clubs, honor society, created and chaired annual pregnancy center fundraiser for the county. Local and foreign missions. Accepted to UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, we are OOS. Biology was listed as major. Two Friends of hers with lower GPA no sports were excepted one was a communications major the other I’m not sure butI think undecided. Clemson was her first choice but because of the weightlist notifications coming out June 1 she has to commit to her other colleges by May 1 so it’s a dilemma for these kids who have other acceptance. She’s decided on UNC unless she gets into Wake Forest which rd is supposed to come out this week for them. The waitlisting turned her off to Clemson because she found out many other with lower gpa and ap credits etc got in over others who worked harder the girls who she knew got in don’t even want to go there and were ranked 13 and 16 in her class and she is 3. Anyway there’s a reason everything happens.

Well as much as I like Clemson, UNC is obviously a much more prestigious university and will afford your daughter greater opportunities after graduation just on the name alone. UNC is great about looking at applications from a holistic approach so they get such a broad spectrum of students. Clemson is just so focused on grades, scores and strength of high school. My D’s counselor told her that if her SAT was not above 1350 to definitely go test optional or she would likely be waitlisted or declined this year.

Can’t really agree with this post and I love UNC. Not sure where this is coming from. I would say that the admissions game reflects a certain randomness. I have three kids (Vandy, Wake and one TBD). For each of them there are stories to be told about admissions obtained and not obtained that arguably should or should not have happened. Good news for all of you is that it will work out, and your child will have a great experience wherever they end up. Where your child goes will matter very little at the end of the day - what you do once you are there will. My advice is to be be smart about what you are paying. No school (starting with Stanford et al) is worth going into debt $250k. Instead, pick a place you enjoy, major in something rigorous and work hard.

I didn’t think about the fact that my numbers were out of state numbers. They were provided to us when my daughter was working on her applications last year so would have also been the numbers for the year prior to that. Our counselor did say that Clemson and UNC were closing the gap on acceptances as Clemson’s application rate is growing exponentially.

Clemson’s projected acceptance rate for this year is projected to be under 46%, UNC in state acceptance rate is around 42%, its much harder to get in OOS.

My DS was waitlisted, poli sci, OOS, 3.97. Should I assume if he gets off the WL he won’t receive any money because it’s so late?

I think a lot of student who received merit had strong test scores.

Daughter accepted to GW. Good luck all!

All students who received merit were notified in their acceptance letters. Clemson has never previously offered merit to waitlist acceptances. And those who did receive merit were very high stat students.

Does anyone know if anyone’s heard back yet?

My DS is on the waitlist and has heard nothing.

Hi Everyone,

I feel for all of you. My son was waitlisted at W&L and Davidson as well as Boston College, Colgate, and Colorado College.

He was denied at UNC Chapel Hill, Uof Virginia, Vanderbilt, and UGA. He was also denied at other schools not in the south.

He was accepted at Clemson with a $6,500 scholarship. Also accepted at SMU with scholarship, UofSC with scholarship and Va Tech.

My son has a 4.03 GPA, AP classes in Chem, Biology, Comp Science, honors math and physics, 1480 SAT score.

Gifted athlete and very honest and hardworking. He switched sports after 10th grade so he didn’t have 4 years of the same sport. He was a superstar on his rowing team for 9th and 10th grade but decided he wanted to play a sport with his high school so stopped rowing to play football, rugby, and to wrestle. He was chosen as captain of wrestling and rugby teams, won awards and honors during wrestling season but only got to wrestle at meets his senior year because of COVID so that info was not on his original application.

He goes to a very competitive public school in

He goes to Darien High School, a very competitive public school in Darien, CT.

Clemson was a safety for him but he got waitlisted or denied at all his targets. I was feeling disappointed and upset that this process is unfair or that we didn’t play the game. I’m realizing that things work out the way they do and its about how you respond that matters.

I was feeling disappointed because he got rejected or waitlisted from schools I thought were a sure bet. He refused to let me hire a college counselor; he wrote all his essays himself; and he has lived his life with full integrity. He never once considered doing something just to put it on his resume or get into a college.

I am proud of him for that.

He loves South Carolina so I guess the stars lined up for him.

We took ourselves off the waitlist. DD got into GW. Good merit. Good luck! I hope it moves someone up a space.

There is no sense to this madness. My daughter is 1400 SAT, 15 AP classes, 3.8 GPA, Fluent in Mandarin, Varsity Soccer and Rugby, Black-Belt in Martial Arts, plays violin, volunteers everywhere, yet applied a little late. Kids in her class with lesser grades etc got in, but she is waitlisted? What gives?

What is the actual date of “applied a little late?” That may help others next year understand.

Clemson communicated very clearly on their website this year for priority consideration Dec 1 was the deadline.
