CLEP Biology and Chem, advice desperately needed

Hello,
SCENARIO: Any advice is very highly appreciated as I am in a really rough situation. I was screwed over by an adviser and now have 7 days to pass either the chemistry or biology CLEP or I will have to go into some harsh debt to take a course. I can dedicate all day, everyday to studying.

BACKGROUND: I got perfect scores on my ACT without studying, science/mathlete from high school, in my final year of undergrad math/statistics with a 4.0, I learn things quick but haven't touched either subject for 5 years.

EXAM: Which exam should I take? A friend who took both suggested I take chem because I don't need to learn any math and can figure out a lot of it by the math I know. But, I haven't touched either subject for 5 years and all the resources say biology is the easier exam by far.

STUDYING: I have done research on studying for biology and it seems using a website and textbook combined are best. Should I use InstantCert or SpeedyPrep? And for textbook, should I use the official CLEP REA review book (link 1 below) or the Cliff AP book (link 2)?
I read somewhere that there are lab questions on the biology one that are only covered in the AP book, any truth to that from your experience?

DOABLE? Is it possible, considering my background, to pass this a week from now, given that I study every day for lengthy periods of time? Should I take notes and read and re-read the materials or can I just skim it over? Thank you very much in advance for any help.

PS: Biology book has good rating on amazon but I also stumbled across this, which made me wonder:

First of all, take a deep breath…

You mentioned Instacert, so I am hoping that you have checked out their discussion board. It is free to anyone, so go into the general discussion and do a search on biology and chemistry. Those folks have a great wealth of information to share and will do so if you ask.

I have heard/read great things about the REA series. Again, you might read what instacert members have posted. If you decide to join instacert as an official member (and have access to their study aids plus the exam specific portion of the discussion board), you would be able to review the material on both exams and see which one makes you feel more confident. I have also seen some good info shared on free-clep-prep.com that you might want to check out.

From your background, I believe you could be prepared to take either of the exams in a week’s time. Have you found a local test center? If so, have you found out when they offer the CLEP exams? There are some test centers that do not deliver exams daily… or even weekly. You may need to be willing to drive quite a distance to a test center. You need to do some calling so that you can find out if there is an opening for you to even take an exam!

Thank you for the reply. I checked out the IC forums and I know what to study but now how and if my goal is doable. Any advice on that? Also, my school does the tests every week so I am set on that.

Based on what you’ve shared about yourself, yes, it’s doable. Study hard and take as many practice tests as possible. [Degree Planners - Sample Questions and Practice Tests](HugeDomains.com)

Best of luck to you and let us know how you did!

65!!! Thank you for the time you took to reply and give advice.

Wow! That is great! Congrats!

@gilliam - Not sure if you’re still active, but what did you use to study? How long did you study for?
