CLEP out of prereqs?

I’m a pre-med student and I was just wondering if it is possible to CLEP out of non-science medical school prerequisites (such as calculus & psychology) and whether or not it is looked down upon. I hope to attend Baylor College of Medicine which states that they do not accept AP credit for prerequisites but it is unclear as to whether or not they will accept CLEP credit. Thanks in advance!

There isn’t a single med school that I’m aware of that will accept CLEP credit for pre-reqs.

Neither Calculus nor Psychology is specifically required.

Agree with wowmom that I have never seen anyone ever discuss CLEP as an accepted course credit.

Oh ok thanks for clearing that up @WayOutWestMom @texaspg. I was only asking because 12 credit hours of Humanities-Social/Behavioral Sciences is required and my major does not allow for that many credits in that area so I would have to take excess credit hours or take the courses at a community college.

Your school does not have any humanities requirements or did you place out of them using some credits?

@texaspg It has some requirements but I placed out of them using AP credits.

@awesome7
Medical schools will only accept AP credits as a substitute if the AP credits awarded are listed as equivalent for a specific course offered at your undergrad.

IOW, 3 credit for psych 1003, not 3 credits psychology/social studies.

Even if a particular school says it accepts AP credits as fulfilling admission requirements, most med schools also say that to be a strong applicant you should take additional credits in the same department equal to the number of AP credits awarded. Please check individual school policies and recommendations.

There are two pieces to meeting prereqs at a college vs medical school. If the school says AP credits met a requirement and waive it, that is completely different from a school showing credit for a specific subject on the college transcript using that waiver. One of my Ds college showed the subjects for which credit was given (they awarded several but kept dropping them when she took equivalent class again in college) which were kind of unusable for medicine except to show Spanish proficiency since all others were met in college. My other D who is applying has lumpsum credits on the transcript. The premed advisor says to split them up based on what they know the credits to be for. If she were not doing math classes or english classes or others, she could theoretically have used them to satisfy some college requirements or show that the college gave a waiver on some of the required classes. This process would have been much harder compared to the first one where the classes are clearly listed.
