CLEP: precalc or calc?

I'll be going to Bergen Community in NJ this fall. In senior year I studied Calculus in a regular, non-AP, collegeprep level class for the first semester only. BCC said I need to test out of Pre-Calculus to get into Calculus, so I was studying for their Pre-Calc exam but since the test is in less than 2 weeks, I thought that I didn't have enough time, since it's been a while since I actually did any math (senioritis; I'm sure you all know what that's like).
Then I found out about the CLEP exam. If I take the Pre-Calculus CLEP and pass sometime this semester, then I could take Calculus next semester. But since I have almost an entire semester to prepare, I thought, why not study for the Calculus CLEP? Because I briefly studied Calculus during my senior year, I did the basic Calculus....stuff. If I study on my own and take the practice exam to know what is in the actual test, I MAY be able to pass Calculus CLEP and not take the Pre-Calc exam at all.
What do you think guys? Get into Calculus next semester by taking Pre-Calc CLEP OR just study CLEP Calculus and get into maybe like a Calc 2 class?

I also want to take in the account that I want to transfer out of BCC as soon as possible. In order to do that, I need a GOOD GPA. Would taking Calculus in college be a GPA-booster or breaker?

To see how CLEP credits are applied by colleges, see [Degree Planners - For College ](<a href=“DegreePlanners.com is for sale | HugeDomains”>DegreePlanners.com is for sale | HugeDomains)

Notice that there is no grade assigned. The GPA will be based only on the credits earned at the school. Transfer credits and credit-by-exam don’t affect GPA.

Have you verified that the Pre-Calc and Calc CLEPs are accepted by the university you intend to enroll in? If so, I would take both of them. Worst case, you’ll have the Pre-Calc prerequisite…best case, you’ll have a math elective (Pre-Calc) and credit for Calculus. If you can use the electives, you might also want to take the College Algebra CLEP. Be sure to take the math exams in sequence, as some schools disqualify credits earned out of sequence. (That is, don’t take the Pre-Calc CLEP after the Calc CLEP.)
