Cleveland, Ghost City?

Hey, my family & I went to visit Case over the summer. We're from the New Jersey/New York Area and see New York almost every other month. When we got to Cleveland, we couldn't help but feel that the city almost seemed empty.

Not many people were wandering the streets and there didn't seem to be a big shopping or entertainment center. The Chinese restaurant we stopped at had only a few patrons.

I know that we may not have come at the best time, during the summer, but even without the students, we thought that the city would at least have some people. It seemed that Cleveland housed only office buildings and a few resturants.

We did go visit the Rock n Roll Hall of fame & the lakeside was amazing; but the city itself seemed to be empty.

Did anybody else get the same impression?
Also, will this affect internship opportunities in the city? Or do internships abound?

I live in a suburb of Cleveland and occasionally visit the city and I wouldn't say its "dead". For entertainment you could go to Playhouse Square. A lot of great shows and performers come through. You could also drive 30 min. to Westlake which has a huge shopping center with a movie theater. Shopping wise, Case is right near Little Italy which has great artsy shops and wonderful resteraunts. Lakewood also has the Beck Center for the Arts which provides semi-professional stage productions. There is also Tower City for shopping but nost of the stores they have to offer are not really the stores I'm interested in.

Major portions of the city are dead, but not along the Chester-Carnegie-Euclid strip that connects Downtown with University Circle. There are plenty of stock malls to the east of Case; the closest one is at Severance Center on Mayfield, followed by the massive Legacy Village and LaPlace complex on opposing corners of Cedar and Richmond.
Of course, for options in restaurants other than Little Italy there is the Coventry area in Cleveland Heights, which is considered one of the trendy areas; there are also the Flats and Ohio City districts, but these are halfway across the city between East 3rd and West 25th. (Case is near East 115th)
And yes, I do live in a suburb of Cleveland as well, namely Shaker Heights.
