Hey guys please chance me and ill chance you back!

Applying: UT-Austin (1st choice), Baylor University, Rice University, Vanderbilt

State: Mississippi

High School: I go to a public school in MS thats not very competitive but the school offers a good amount of AP classes that are taught by very qualified teachers.

Rank: 2/~150 (salutatorian)

GPA: 4.0

Senior Courses: AP Calculus AB, AP English 12, AP Microecon, AP US government, College Algebra, Anatomy/Physiology, Ceramics I, will dual enroll in University of Southern Miss to take Calculus I starting January

AP Tests: Psychology - 4, US History - 4, World History - 4, (AP Scholar Award) Will take Biology, Enviornmental Science, and US Government during senior year

ACT: 31...will take in December to get 32

SAT II: US History - 740, Bio-E - 650 (I know bad), World History - 750

ECs: Varsity Soccer and Cross Country, Captain for Soccer team, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Community Service for my church.

Ill be salutatorian and hopefull by March ill be moved up to Valedictorian depending on the final ranks.

I want to do pre-med and ill major in biology or history. My first choice is UT-Austin and im applying for the College of Natural Sciences as first choice and the Liberal Arts College for major in History as second choice.

PS: how long does an ACT score take to reach the school if you send from ACT website? (not priority but standard)

i think you will get inot Txas-Astin and Bylor for sure, and will be strong canidate at Vanderbilt don't know enough to say about Rice

Thanks!

Bumppppppppppppppppp

All of those schools are pretty hard for out-of-state for what you are looking to do. Baylor, if you intend to do the med program (w/Rice), is really hard to get into. Rice is also really hard to get into.

For now, I think you're a match for Vandy and UT, and reaches for Rice and Baylor. If you school had offered AP Bio (does it, you're taking the test...), it probably would have been better for you to take that.

Btw, why are you taking Calc I at Southern Miss if you're taking Calc AB for the school year? Calc AB is Calc I.

Btw, here's my chance thread.

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/613297-hi-there-could-you-guys-chance-me-wharton-few-other-schools.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/613297-hi-there-could-you-guys-chance-me-wharton-few-other-schools.html</a></p>

excellent class rank, SAT 2s, and EC's... although you could show a little more leadership. Vanderbilt and Rice may be high reaches. they might question why you want to major in biology if you got a 650 on the sat 2's. the best of luck!!

Chance me? <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/613653-my-chances-competitive-schools.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/613653-my-chances-competitive-schools.html</a></p>

Thanks guys.

Ya the only reason i got a 650 was becasue i picked the Ecological section, after i finished the test i had like 2 minutes left over and i just looked at the Molecular section questions and probably could have gotten most of them right and could have maybe gotten 700-730..only reason i picked E was becasue i studied a little more about ecology, and i didnt have too much time to study because my ACTs were the week before the SAT IIs so i spent 3 weeks prior studying for the ACT. No, my school doesnt offer AP bio, but im taking it becasue well i love biology and my teacher already provided my with a AP bio textbook and ill probably start reading it after all my college apps are mailed in by january. I dont intend to apply for the guarenteed admission program for Rice and Baylor. i just want to get in haha...

ps - i can probably get excellent recommendations from my teachers.

hey guys would it be easier for me to get in Texas if i just apply for college of undergraduate studies instead to the college of natural sciences becasue the nat sciences college is really popular and get filled fast with the texas 10% students.

would it be easier to get into college of liberal arts?

bump...............

Hi, I think you're IN everywhere except for Rice which may be a low reach school for you. Good Luck!

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/612877-please-help-chance-me-i-m-nervous.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/612877-please-help-chance-me-i-m-nervous.html</a></p>

You wont get into UT Austin (your OOS) plus 90% of the people at UT Austin are in-state top 10% percenters

i have to agree with the guy above me. Austin has like a 94% instate enrollment. You have got to have killer essays

what are your ECs anyway?

bump............2 cousins went there? so? legacy counts?

still legacy wont get you over the fact that 90% of the students are in the TOP TEN PERCENT of there class in Texas (its a state law; so a billion people go to UT)

what about the 10% remaining? what are their stats and how do i face up against them?

so what are my chaces for baylor or vandy?

Biggest problem is the lack of stand-out EC's. Otherwise, fairly solid. However, get more safety schools

UT-Austin - match
Rice - reach
Vanderbilt - low reach
Baylor - Pre-Med Major = low reach

Chance back?
