Shazaam, you win a million lire, since it's not worth much. But first anyway, you have to evaluate my chances at various colleges I'll list, thus far in my high school career. For background, I'm a southern white male, middle class, in need of scholarships.

GPA: approx. 93/100 unweighted, so I guess if you're going by the 4 point scale it's about a 3.7 unweighted. Taking all honors and APs, not a straight A student but I do alright. Weighted GPA is about a 4.4-5 approximately.

9th Grade Courses: English 9H, Geography H, Algebra 2 H, Biology H, Spanish 1, Health Education.

10th Grade Courses: English 10H, World History H, Precalculus H, Chemistry H, Spanish 2, AP Psychology (4).

11th: AP English Language (guessing 4), AP US History (guessing 4), AP Calculus (5 probably), AP Chem (4 or 5), Physics H, Spanish 3.

12th (proposed schedule for high school, estimated score included)
AP Literature (3,4 hopefully), AP Biology (5), AP Government (4). My school sucks and doesn't have the second calculus, nor does it have economics, both courses I want to take. I will have virtually expended my crappy high school's curricula in math and science. So...

Dual enrollment proposed schedule (summer and year): Calculus 2, Multivariable Calculus, Economics, might find a second level of psychology.

SAT: Haven't taken one yet, but on practices math is in the 700s, hit 800 once, and verbal is consistently between 620-650. So I'm asking my chances assuming it ends up like this, won't hold it against you if I end up with a 600.
SATII: Planning on Math II, Chemistry, Biology.

Awards and Honors:

9th: Talent show winner. Didn't get very involved in school at the time, moved and had a tough time with social life.

10th: Talent show winner
Math department Student of the Year (Precalc)

11th: Was finally allowed to compete in advanced math competitions as an upper classman.
Talent show winner.
Carried team to the regional level, won numerous awards at individual competitions.
Math department student of the year, yet again (Calc AB).
By end of summer I will have extended my number of volunteer hours at the hospital to over 300, and I hope to reach at least 500, I want to attend medical school.

12th: Will win the talent show, will be math department student of the year for sure.

I've also of course made the school's honor roll every year, colleges don't have to know that all you need is a 3.5.

Extracurriculars (May be a somewhat redundant list)

Local hospital volunteering in Atlanta (prestigious program with a very low acceptance, like frikkin Harvard.)
Math Team.
Student Council (no elected offices, it's all based on academics, top students get in, but I'm seen as the guy in charge.)
I'm also a musician, but I don't tailor my goals to win loads of awards, I just participate in the annual talent show. Music really is my passion along with science.

Hoping to go to medical school, I'm going to be a Bio major, not because I think it will get me in, but because I absolutely love Biology.

Colleges: Vanderbilt, Emory, Georgia Tech, Baylor, Rice, Wash U, UVA, Duke, William and Mary, don't want to go too far from home so the last four are probably not at the top of my list. I live in Georgia.

Anybody??????

Come on..........

I'd say bring your SATs up for a shot at Duke and Emory..I don't really know how it works down south. It really sucks that your school maxes out at calc AB. :(

Yeah dude, it does suck because math is my thing. The math teachers aren't good either so I've learned what I know on my own really.

Good morning!

I'd say bring youre SAT's up for Duke. But I'd also say you have a great shot. Georgia Tech try to do really well in Math. It's important to them. One kid at my school won AMC Math competition every year. He got into Georgia Tech with a crappy GPA. Lazy, but brilliant mind. So try to do well in Math. I'd say the other schools you have a fair shot at . =]

"Shazaam, you win a million lire"

I'll take you up on that. They re-valued the currency in Turkey, it's now worth a lot more than you think it is ;)

I think you have a good chance, although I'd try to work on your extracurriculars. Your hospital volunteering is good - but it would better if you did try for some music contests, especially since you don't participate in sports - and Duke, especially is a VERY sporty school.

Duke is at the bottom of my list though, probably won't apply, with the crazy rapists and all, and I hate sports. I didn't know they were big into it actually, I knew they were to some degree but you're the first one to capitalize it like that.

By the way, I was talking about Italian lire. Isn't that the cheap kind?

Anybody else?

Godfather, keep your 700 dollars..lol, but anyway, I think that Emory, Vandy, etc are all reaches for you. I'm from Atlanta, as well, and I actually got into Columbia, Emory, Vandy, U Chi, etc, but then again, in the fall of 2005 (when I applied), I was also a black male attending an elite, predom. white suburban high school in a rich white suburban neighborhood. Plus, I got a 32 on the ACT, so that probably helped me. But in your case, I think these may be reaches. If you had better stats (higher SAT/ACT, etc), then you'd probably have a decent chance, but it's harder for you to get into these schools, because there'll be plenty white middle-class/upper-middle-class/rich (in all three categories) males applying to schools like that. But, hey, you can always try. BTW, what H.S. do you attend?

Well, that's just dissing me and bragging. It's okay if it's your honest opinion that I can't get into those schools, but why do you feel the need to say all the colleges you got into?

Anyway, keep evaluating me guys.

Godfather, I'm not dissing you. I was serious about saying that you should try. Sorry if I offended you or you took things the wrong way, but what I was actually saying is that what you are trying to do is NOT impossible, and that I did it, but the obvious difference is race. I was actually offering you support, however, at the same time, being truthful about my background as well, which may have helped my success.

Sorry if I took it the wrong way. Your tone seemed pompous, but it's hard to tell from just text.

It does help to be a minority for sure, I realize what I'm up against as a white male. I would think though, to some degree that the most common person is a middle class white male, that would be the most common person at a college.

You might want to think of the US Military Academy -- West Point.

The Chemistry and Life Sciences Major has a Medical School Option

http://www.dean.usma.edu/departments/Chem/CourseOfferings/DegreeRequirements/MedicalSchoolOption.htm

That not only pays for your undergraduate education, but med school as well.

Sounds like a good idea. Anyone else have some imput?

Aw, come on now!

Anybody else?

UVA (oos) , Duke, William and Mary (oos) are big reaches

I should mention that I listed my colelges in order from most interest to least interest.
