I do not know the specific reason for why they do not have lwt rowing. I am a lwt recruit that, fortunatly, was admitted early. Rowing however is a very expensive sport for schools. Lwt rowing is a shrinking field. In fact after several years of low numbers of entries, the lwt 8 event was removed from the world championships. It is restarting again this year, but had it not been reinstated, the event would have removed from the olympics. My guess is that the reasoning Brown used was that it can combine its efforts in an openweight program. Cal and Washington are great examples of top programs that only have one men's crew program. They do recruit lwts there. I was considering the school (and the coach was recruiting me), but I ended up not liking the school when I actually got to campus. There is a place for a lwt on any team. The old strength to weight ratio and rowing big is all that matters. The seven seat from BU's 8 that had one of the best finishes in the history of the program at IRAs was a lwt and went on to row for the under 23 team in, I believe, the lwt4-. That rower was a two year 1st boat rower. The summer before he rowed in the first 8 that went on to compete in the henley royal regatta in the ladies' challange plate. Anyway, goodluck with your college search, feel free to email me if you have any questions...

thanks a lot wb10. I'm sorry you didn't end up liking Brown. But i'm glad you got recruited as a lwt to a very good, non-lwt crew team. I might have more questions later...but thanks for your answer.

actually i am going to a lightweight program. so goodluck racing next year.
