I also got a supplemental recommendation from the Governor (of the state)

I'm sending a CD as well from a concerto competition

I know its a reach for many of the schools up there, especially with my test scores. But I am at least 100 points above the average for the SATs and about 9-10 points above the average for the ACTs at my school.
What do you guys think my chances are?? Please give me an HONEST opinion.
Thanks for any help!

Based on the credentials I've seen on this board - my GUESS is Yale, Stanford and Rice are longshots at best - average SAT at Yale is 1500, most have SAT IIs in the 750-800 range (800 Writing is not uncommon). Your other choices are promising especially Trinity, BU, NYU. I know nothing about UT Austin and UNM so no comment on those. BUT...this is an unpredictable process and you will never know unless you apply so my advice is to apply to them all and see what happens.
Best of luck to you.

Have you tried posting in the Chances forum?

Yale, Stanford, and Rice: unlikely because of your scores, but still possible... your activities sound solid and your rank is excellent.
Boston U, NYU, Trinity: your chances are quite good, esp. at Boston.
UT-Austin: I don't know much about the UT system, but if you are instate (especially with your rank) then I'd say your chances are very good.

If you're looking to add another school, I'd recommend Bowdoin or Bates. Both are liberal arts colleges in Maine. They have excellent academic reputations- for Bates, think NYU, and for Bowdoin, think Rice. Also, they don't require standardized tests! (About 80% of their applicants choose to submit them; of those who submit scores at Bowdoin, the 25%-75% is a 1290-1440). I think you'd have an excellent shot at Bates and a good shot at Bowdoin.

Which is better? BU or NYU?

That depends on what area you're talking about. NYU might have slightly more prestige, and I think it might be a little harder to get in to, but I would imagine that overall quality (if that can be measured) is about equal.

I am interested in Biology and/or English--possibly pre-Med. Considering that, would you say either one is better than the other?
