I am currently a freshman at Virginia Tech and am interested in become a pediatric doctor in the emergency room. I have come across a dilemma though regarding my plans for this summer. I am already going to be a summer camp counselor, but I am also trying to volunteer with something medically related as well.

Since I want to be an ER doctor, but also a peds doctor, would you suggest that I try to volunteer in the Emergency Room or with a children's hospice program in my area?

Thanks!

You don’t have to apply to medical school knowing what kind of doctor you’ll be and in fact most med students end up in a field other than what they thought going in.

Therefore it doesn’t really matter whom you shadow in the way you are talking about. You should pick the place where you think you’ll learn the most. That being said, hospice care is VERY different from emergency medicine, but if you mean that doing the we means not being a counselor than do the hospice. Being a camp counselor is great if you think you want to do peds
