Cliques?

Current NYU students,
what's the race/class interaction at NYU?? I come from Miami and generally speaking everyone mingles with everyone....is it the same at NYU or does everyone stick to who they know and are used to..(ethincally, racially, religiously, etc)

NYU is very liberal and friendly and stuff. But I guess there are some cliques. I've been told some Asians find the Asian cliques very annoying. I'd imagine less than most places though. For instance I have a spectrum of friends of diff races, religions etc and we get along just fine.

probably less than other schools. nyu is so diverse, you are most likely going to have friends of every variety. of course, there are exceptions- there are definitely some asian/indian/jewish cliques, but that certainly doesnt mean all of them only hang out with each other. its the exception rather than the rule.

as far a class goes, the only 'cliques' might be the very weathly socialite types, and only noticable when they talk loudly in class about clubbing with celebrities, weekends in europe etc.

but really, its such a huge school, race/class are really a nonissue. no one cares.

Race interaction? There are def. groups along ethnic lines...
Class interaction? Everyone hangs out together.

Will you find cliques? Yes. But NYU is too big to generalize like it. If anything there's a clique for anyone and everyone.

In my experiences here so far, cliques are pretty prevalent. But i'm sure they are everywhere, something that I've come to accept. Before going into university, i too hoped that there wouldn't be too much cliqueiness going on, but ya, they exist. On my floor, for example, asians hang out with asians, whites with whites. I'm also friends with an entire Indian clique from a different building. I also know 3/4 of the choices floor (no drinking floor), which can also be a clique, if you thinka bout it. But I mean, in the end its up to you. I'm all over the place so i don't belong to a clique, which actually takes away a sense of community. Of course there are tons of mixed groups too.

Whatever makes you happy, you'll find it
