Can someone please give me more information on the Clive Davis program as well as the Film and Television program through Tisch. I'm not sure exactly what I want to major in, but NYU seems to offer a lot of choices. I just want to have a good idea so I prepare for my artistic review(s). Are these programs reliable? How many do they accept throughout the year? Teacher's good? Give me some info!

I got in to the Clive Davis program for next year. They accepted 18 seniors and 6 transfers for next fall.

I'm an ingoing film major for the class of 09. NYU Film is widely accepted as the number one film school in the country, along side USC if you want to count those californians. It's philosophy is routed in hands on production, and it is one of the only film schools that give its students 16mm production in the sophmore year. NYU also has an extensive list of famous alumni...

Basically, its an amazing place, and if you want to study film, you really can't get better.

Only problem with NYU Film, is getting in. I think its the most competitive major at NYU. At the tisch banquet thing this year, they told us that 2500 people applied for 240 spots (so its around a ten percent acceptance). They do weigh the portfolio quiet high, but academics are still important. On some level, its a crap shoot.

I choose to go to NYU film because I know I want to be a director. If you're not quiet sure, consider transferring in. I've heard the environment is pretty cutthroat...

Haha, that sounded like a scary ended. Well whatever you decide, good luck.

i got into nyu film as well, and like you want to be a director. only im slightly terrified. anyone else out there slightly terrified as well? this would make me feel better, so feel free to lie. sigh. but seriously the nyu film program is extrmely intense and competitive and cutthroat, and apparently very tough to break into. so i guess i should be happy...except im terrified...slightly.

can i get into this program with a 3.75 gpa?

gpa is only one of big factors they look at. Sure, you can get in with that...but you have to be a well-balanced candidate. I'm gonna be in film/tv in the fall too. It wasn't quite 2500 that applied (I was at that banquet too). Tisch film's acceptance rate is about one in four. You have to show them that you're different - that you're a great student and well-balanced individual but you are also very artistic. You don't have to know very much about film to get in...some ppl just send in pictures. If that's truly your passion, I'm sure you'll find a way to make your portfolio great. Portfolio and academic record are probably the biggest factors...but extracurriculars are important too. Have you participated in anything that might show admissions that you're really serious about the arts? Were you a leader in high school? Most everybody accepted was the big fish in the small pond at their high school. How are you gonna rank up with the other big fish around the country. Don't be intimidated, just be yourself and show them who you really are.

I have a question to for those that got in this year. I have a lot of extra-curriculars related to film, I've audited a production class, got into the summer film program at Tisch, play several instruments, volunteer, have leadership positions and I have a really awesome idea for my film for the portfolio. I also have a 4.6 w/3.9 u.w GPA (one of the hardest schedules) but my SAT's aren't that awesome (equal to like a 1200). I just took the ACT and think I did a lot better, but what do you think this will do to my chances? (And I'm retaking the SAT or ACT if I didn't do that well on the ACT). Oh and I'm applying ED

is it easier to get into the film/tv program with ED?

Litltebeach,
Nobody can tell you your chances for sure. But the summer program will make it a lot easier.

For film, I think the the admission rate for ED is the same, but less people apply.
