Closest Amtrak train station to MIT & what to do while visiting

The options listed on the website are:

Boston - Back Bay, MA

Boston - South Station, MA
Downtown

Since it's the summer, I can't sit in on any classes, but... is there anything you guys think I should do there, besides the info session and campus tour?

I'm a rising senior planning college visits for the summer, so thanks for your help! :)

Back Bay Station is technically closer, but South Station is on the Red Line subway (which MIT is also on). South Station is probably a better choice – from Back Bay Station, you’d have to either switch subway lines or walk a bit to get to MIT.

Once you get to South Station, look for the Red Line inbound toward Alewife ($2). You’ll take the train to Kendall/MIT Station, which is on the northeast edge of MIT’s campus.

Thanks, that sounds great! All of your posts are mind-blowingly helpful.
