Closest beach??

Hey guys!! What's the closest (and cleanest) beach to UCLA? What's the best way to get there? Do a lot of UCLA people go to the beach on the weekends? Thanks :)

Btw, I'm from Boston, so going to the beach should be exciting!!

Santa Monica and Venice Beach. About 25 minutes by bus, I think... or about 10-15 minutes with a car. Depends on traffic.

Santa Monica, (left side of the pier) is beautiful and fun! About 15 minuets?

Yes or Will Rogers to the far right of Santa Monica. TBH, SM and Venice aren't the nicest beaches. I prefer Venice to SM but I generally don't like the Venice 'culture.' There are much nicer beaches if you're willing to drive... e.g. Paradise Cove. :-)

Oh and SM is a pretty awesome dating location -- beach, pier, Ferris wheel, shopping district, entertainment, movies, mall, swimming, bike-riding, Venice next door, and diverse restaurants and games and some roller coasters... oh yeah long walks on the beach if you're into that sorta thing.

What do you mean by the Venice 'culture'?

I'm just hoping my first impression will be the best, so I'm willing to go a little further. Somewhere not super crowded would be perfect!

I have to admit I'm feeling too excited right now...but it's only Monday :(

I love long walks on the beach. :D

By Venice culture I mean it's really Bohemian (for lack of better word). Marijuana, Scientology, extreme religious groups, also incense and random stuff... it's... interesting to say the least.

It does sound like a perfect dating location. Too bad I don't have a boyfriend ahaha...

oh lord, tell me we're not turning this into a dating thread...

Well OK fine it's a good place to just hang out with you friends (assuming you have any). I heard Fisico is single and he's having issues. Shoot him a PM. . . or maybe GrassPuppet too since he fails to capture my heart - repeatedly.

Santa Monica is often polluted and crowded, try further down the coast by line marina del rey, el porto or manhattan beach! (near LAX) its a bit of a drive but its where all the beach boys used to surf...so a bit of California History went on there!

I'm actually going with my roommates. Funny thing is, we're all not from the area so everyone is pretty excited for the weekend.

Anyway, I got a great recommendation to Leo Carrillo via PM, so looks like that's where I'm going :)

anyone know approx. time to get to paradise cove with a car?
or with a bus? depending on # of ppl...

30+ minutes with a car. PC is a great dating place as well. Private beach. Restaurant. Mojitos. Lots of space. Cleaner. Romantic.

precisely. it used to take me like 45 minutes to get there from glendale... need to figure out fastest way to get there. damn i need to get a job
