Title speaks for itself, thanks :)

There’s a Citibank ATM on campus. It’s a bit weird because sometimes it’ll charge me a fee (I’m a BoA customer) and sometimes it doesn’t. If anyone can clarify this (I know, it’s embarrassing that I still haven’t figured this out), that’d be great. And all I know about hotels is that my parents and I stayed at the Hotel Newton somewhere near 96th when I was moving in my first year.

Does Columbia have any kind of a credit union? Or at least a bank that has certain deals for Columbia students?

no credit union that i know of.

chase is everywhere nearby, citibank has a few branches in the area. td has a bank in the area.

Wait! So would you recommend me switching from Chase to Citibank or no?

Bank of America and TD Bank are both on Broadway around 109th or 110th…not far to walk. If you open a student account at TD Bank and tie it to your parents’ account, you can get all free ATM transactions. If you’re happy with BofA, stick with them.

If you have Chase or Citibank, stick with them.

Should I switch from my tiny local bank, then? If so, to which?

There is a hotel in one of the Columbia dorms, I’m not sure which. The rooms are not palatial, but they’re affordable for NYC and right on campus.

I would switch just for convenience’s sake. Citibank is in Lerner Hall so it’s the closest in that it’s directly on the main campus. However, I would open an account with Chase because it’s 1 block away from campus on 113th and there are about a billion of them in the city. The Chase College account, which is what I have, is perfect if all you need is a debit card & checking account w/ no annual fees or monthly fees. I think they might even give you a bonus for opening an account.

There will be the Aloft Harlem opening on August 5. It’s just a few blocks away from the campus.
