How much room can I expect?

My parents don’t really want to store any of my stuff, so I’m pretty much in the position of having to take everything to college, or get rid of it. I’m planning on bringing the majority of my wardrobe… is that a bad idea?

Between the dressers and closets I found it to be rather adequate.

Well, obviously, it depends on what that consists of, comisar! And, you and I have been discussing, on another thread, the fact that you will now be living a good part of the year in the winter, so you will need to get winter clothing which is bulkier, perhaps, than your San Jose wardrobe. I would go through the wardrobe and get rid of a lot of it, if you can. You will be able to get more, and you WILL get more clothes. Don't bring your whole wardrobe. Another thing, the closet and drawer space could be pretty small, despite Modest's experience. It varies. My D brought almost everything she owns because she didn't know what she would want. She plans to cut down by a lot for the coming year. BTW, it depends on if you are a guy or a girl... I guess.

It also depends on which dorm you end up in. Keeney rooms have big closets, with lots of rod room. I saw a room in New Pembroke that had maybe a foot of rod space.

If you get bed risers you can fit lots of plastic storage bins under your bed. Some rooms in Pembroke have access to nearby storage closets.

Yes-- my D lived in New Pembroke and it was pretty small. I second the suggestion of bed risers.

OK, I'll definitely look into bed risers.

Unrelated question: do people at Brown ride bikes around campus? I didn't notice any when I was there.

It's very hilly, but there are bikes. Probably not too much of an issue, because the campus is relatively small.

There are plenty of forgotten bikes on the bike racks hehe.

I almost bought bed risers since most people recommended them. Then I got to my room and realized my bed height was adjustable. Wait on buying them until you know for sure what you're sleeping on.

One note on the bikes - if you don't plan on using it much, it's only really worth it if your dom has bike storage, which you can check on the reslife website. Some do and some don't. Otherwise, you either have to keep it outside all the time or take up space for it in your room.

every dorm is wildly different. you can get thing like "closet doublers" and under the bed storage tubs, shelves, etc to maximize space.

i had a friend who had barely enough space for her summer clothes, let alone winter stuff. However, i had tons of extra space for all my clothes so it really varies.

I have seen a couple of rooms at Andrews Hall where the closets were huge! Walking closets bigger than mine at home..
