Thanks sybbie- I just read the cc link and it made reference to corporette.com a site for the ladies who may also be looking for business attire. I just sent the link over to my kids.
Funny- we did a Tanger Riverhead run for d # 2 last week. She’ll be doing her semester internship with a professional sports team. She doesn’t have to do the whole nine yards with professional attire due to the nature of the business- but she needed to get dress slacks- sweaters- shoes etc. as her normal attire of sweats and t-shirts wouldn’t do. Our time at Tanger was pretty successful.

EVERY guy needs one basic suit in life – either navy or black --which goes anywhere and with anything – good for weddings or funerals, and everything in between. You can dress it up or down with ties/shirts. Brooks Brothers NEVER goes out of style (bcos it is never really in style). BUT, and this is a BIG but, never, ever poly – always wool, 100% if you can afford it. Donate that suit of yours.

btw: a well-made (non-designer) suit will easily last 10 years+…

You can also make up for all manner of sins that might exist when you buy a cheaper suit (wool blend, etc.) by having that suit well tailored. A suit that fits correctly will always look much more expensive than it might actually have been.

I learned that early on from a wonderful mentor that I have, and I have found that to be sage advice.

Bleh. I’ll just go all out now.

Regarding french cuffs and cufflinks, that’s generally a department I won’t enter. I’ve heard time and time again that while associates should dress well, they should never dress “beyond their pay grade.” I think cufflinks and their ilk are for partners, and partners only.

You think correctly. You wouldn’t believe some of the snarky comments I’ve heard over the years about associates who, as you said, dress beyond their pay grade.

So just to put the issue to rest, I bought a suit to today. It’s full canvass, wool/silk, grey. Just beautiful. Kind of broke the bank (is that the right phrase), but you gotta spend money to make money, right? RIGHT?

Congrats and good luck this summer. But in the future, just know that silk does not wear as well (or last as long) as 100% wool.

Actually, my mistake, it’s 100% wool. For some reason I default into wool/silk mode.

Yeah!!! Are you also getting whatever alterations you need done? Hopefully the alternations will be done for free :)

The suit already fits super well. I only really need hemming and for the sleeves to be shortened a bit. Other than that, it’s just perfect, perfect, perfect. And yes, alterations will be free:D
