Clothes for college question

I'm a guy with a average build and slightly above average height. I'm looking for quality T-shirts (not super expensive designer though) that will last a long time and is really soft and comfy. Remember, they have to be good t-shirts, not just the average (especially plain white Ts, I'll probably get a lot of those). What companies make good t-shirts?

What are you supposed to layer? A shirt over a shirt, shirt under polo...so many possibilities, what are the nicest ways to layer? Thanks.

Depends on your body-fat percent; i.e. if you’re of above-average muscularity go for well-fitting (but NOT tight!) T-shirts. If you’re overweight, don’t wear t-shirts. If you’re in the normal range, look for A&F, Lacoste etc. for quality if you can afford it.

For layering, to be honest most people I know layer because otherwise they would sweat right through their shirts and that just looks disgusting. plain white T under most shirts looks good, not all though. You should be layering if you’re going to be wearing pullovers in my opinion. There are some really fancy combinations that I’ve seen like shirts over hoodies etc, but that’s not for your average person.. I’d say stick with Ts under polos & shirts, and double-Ts or double polos occasionally.

EDIT: Boss for plain white Ts.

Double polos?! That would look so douchetastic.

Yeah I guess. I go to a school with a lot of kids that would be deemed preppy etc. but they’re quite OK. It looks fine on them & me. I guess it depends on which polos you choose ^^

Double polo isn’t even preppy, it’s just ■■■■■■-tastic, like the other guy said.

Hugo Boss probably makes the best shirts out of ANY brand, but they’re expensive and I don’t usually see Hugo Boss plain shirts. Banana Republic has the best plain shirts that I’ve seen and you can usually get them 2 for $30 or whatever.

lol @ whoever suggested double polos.

Try American Apparel. Kinda pricey, but you can get their products cheaper through sites like eBay.

never wear double polos. ever. i think it was only cool for 3 weeks in 2005 haha

I used to make fun of a guy that wore double polos EVERY SINGLE DAY.

double polo is so dumb and makes you look ■■■■■■■■

Sorry - Are mom’s allowed in the “College Life” forum?

I just wanted to say that there are high quality, soft, comfy, reasonably priced t shirts at LandsEnd.com. They last forever. I know Lands End is not a catalog for people in their teens and twenties, but the t shirts are great if what you are looking for is high quality t shirts for layering. The shirts are fairly long. They have a generous cut, too - not like an American Eagle slim fit.

ahh poly-polo-collar-popping! please refrain!

american apparel is a nice choice..they have basics in several styles and tons of colors. and they don’t manufacture in sweatshops.

American Apparel for sure.

Definitely don’t go to Abercrombie and Fitch. The quality is horrible. Also don’t waste your money on Lacoste. It’s not worth it.

BLASPHEMOUS! I refuse to support market inefficiencies!

Banana Republic makes nice, soft crew neck tees that wash really well and last for ageeeees.

Not really what you’re looking for, but my absolute favorite source of t-shirts:
[Threadless T-Shirts - Designer Clothing Submissions - Tees, Tshirts and T shirts!](<a href=“Memorial Day Sale - All Tees $13 + Up to 40% Off Everything Else!”>Memorial Day Sale - All Tees $13 + Up to 40% Off Everything Else!)

I second or third Banana Republic. And in terms of fit and quality Lacoste is defiantly worth the money for polos (although they have been spotted on a lot of douches lately).

lol I’ve always worn sports apparel bought from college stores, finish line, steve&barry’s, haha…

that’s true, too–just buy apparel from your school :)

also invest in banana hammocks.
