@espenser Thank you so much for your reply! I do feel a little better and yes, the interviewing process will not be for nothing and is great experience, even if she doesn’t get in to one of the “hyper competitive” clubs!
We are booked for both the Notre Dame and Georgetown accepted students weekends and you are so right…that will probably be what helps her decide. She as been to both schools twice and as you said, they are both awesome for different reasons. My gut feeling she will be happy at either one!
As both an alumnus and a current parent, let me just say that the overwhelming majority of students do not belong to any of the “hyper-competitive” clubs and manage to have a wonderful experience at Georgetown. There are so many different clubs to choose from it is nearly overwhelming. I think too many people get caught up in the “hype” of these few clubs as if gaining acceptance will define them at Georgetown. It simple isn’t so. I am sure your daughter will find numerous opportunities to be involved in activities that suit her interests.
I would also echo espenser’s comments; many students form their best and deepest friendships in their freshman dorms. Then there will be study groups, intramural and/or club sports, internships, parties, etc. Bottom line: if your daughter wants to be involved, she will be!
@Dad082 thank you for the reassuring advice! I’m so glad to hear that the club situation doesn’t have to be a negative experience! She cannot wait for accepted students day…late March which seems so far from now! Thanks again!
@collegemomjam As a current student, I agree with @Dad082. I’m not in any of those ultra-competitive clubs (and neither are most of my friends), and we all love it here. Of course, it’s cool to say that you’re in The Corp, but people who brag about it a lot tend to not wind up making many friends that way, lol.
