Any suggestions for a laptop that is inexpenive, reliable, sturdy, and not slow? Weight, size, appearance, and other such things dont matter. I just want one that doesn't break and doesn't cost a ton of $

apple ibook

Yeah...you just named the requirments that actully matter (well weight and size matter as well but they are personal preference). Its pretty hard to get them all together. Its more of a: Cheap, Reliable/Sturdy, fast; pick 2.

Which one is better for students between the two...

Dell Inspiron 9300 or the HP DV4000 ?

ok computer peeps, i'm still searchin for the perfect one. What do u guys know about SHARP laptops???? I know they make good tv's, but computers????

While Sharps are little-known, they are supposed to be well-built, but I believe their tech support is kind of shaky. However, I believe they are way overpriced for their configurations and value.

Dell Inspiron 9300 or the HP DV4000 ?

I'd go Dell hands down on that decision, however are you sure you meant the 9300? Because that is the 17" model, while the DV4000 has a 15.4" widescreen. Perhaps you meant the Inspiron 6000?

Skigurl, go with any of the IBM ThinkPad models.

haha ok this is a dumb question but what is tech support????

I did mean the 9300...

My friend is getting that one... and personally, I fancy the DV4000... It seems it outclasses the DV4000 only marginally but it's friggn' huge IMO.

buummmmmmpppppp...............

seriously guys what the hell is tech support?????

If something goes wrong with your laptop/computer and you need to call Dell, or Toshiba, or whomever, and get them to talk you through the problem, that is tech support. Tech support that is crappy is if it's people in other countries who can't understand you, or ones here that just don't give a damn and aren't willing to try.

I find Dells to be pretty clunky but they are cheap.

IBMs are more expensive but for the same stuff, a lot cheaper than Vaios. I'd recommend a T-series thinkpad if you want a PC.

oooooo thankx

Another tip: when you're checking out computers online, check the sale/clearance section. Sometimes they have really good deals there. I just got a great Sony vaio laptop for $1400.

Agreed, zante.
I ordered my Vaio after seeing a special daily promotion on their website; the base price was only 1500, and the customizations were 200 more; not a bad deal, with the Xbrite LCD screen and 40GB. Now if only they got rid of the taxes, I ended up paying 100+ for it.

Yea I know
Taxes = $120
Shipping = $45
It was depressing :(

I was reading reviews about the vaio and one person wrote "if you're buying a new model Vaio you're not doing it for the sweet deal. VAIO is for people who really want a Powerbook, but have to run Windows programs, n'est ce pas?" I found that amusing and pretty true. =)

I'm typing on my recently-purchased Dell Inspiron 6000, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. It's a very solid laptop (much moreso that I expected, and much moreso than my dad's HP) and I got it at a great price. If you can get one of the fat e-coupons that Dell puts out (techbargains.com), I can see no reason not to get one of their computers.

have any of you guys checked out the more "bang for you buck" ODM laptops? I am currently looking at the Asus Z71v (~1800) and the Acer TravelMate 8104 (~2100) or 8103 (~1800)
i think they are very sweet laptops without the ginormous brick like configuration and pretty acceptable battery life
 note: they are NOT gaming rigs; they don't claim to be

if only if only the woodpecker cried and my Z71v came with a better LCD display stares at Sony and Toshiba LCDs with droooool
i have a vendetta against Dell, otherwise, their 9300 with the 6800 go ultra and 2 gigs of ram would be my newest gaming rig
TINSTAAFL...good luck and do ur research

Dell has 34% off their Inspiron 6000's right now. I'm getting one with a Pentium M processor (1.6 gH I think...), 512 mb RAM in one dimension, 60 gb hard drive with 7200 rpm, microsoft xp pro, norton security for 15 months, microsoft works, etc. for only $1040 (Well, 1150 once you add in tax). Shipping is free. I think it's a pretty good deal!
