I don’t know about you guys, but I am at that stage where I don’t have the slightest clue what I want to do or where I want to go. All of my friends around me are so ecstatic when they’ve been accepted to their #1 choice, but I haven’t found myself getting unusally excited towards any school making me think maybe I haven’t found the right one yet. Is anyone else feeling this way? Please feel free to talk to me, maybe you can help me figure this out.
Considering most applications are due tomorrow, this might be a little late, but start with basics: not what you want to do, but what kind of school you want to be at. Picture it in your mind. Is it rural, urban, large or small? Where is it, a sunny place or snowy? Close to home or far away? If you can picture yourself at ANY school, that’s a place to start. Which schools do you have that match that image in your head?
Good luck!
People like you who are not sure are not making any noise…they’re quietly contemplating, processing, and worrying. You’re only hearing from people who think they have it figured out or who want you to think that they do. A lot of the noise you’re hearing now is coming from kids who are also scared and unsure.
When my kid got his first, early acceptance to a school he liked (but not his favorite), he went around telling everyone how excited and happy he was. I’m pretty sure it was a defense mechanism against the possibility that he might not get into any other schools.
Nearly everyone is feeling conflicted right now and I’d bet big money that some of the people you envy for being excited are looking at your quiet exterior thinking: I wish I could feel as cool and calm as ScoobyGummyLover.
Agree, what you are feeling is not at all unusual. In fact, it is healthy to not have all of your hopes and dreams pinned on to one school. For now just wait and see how things turn out. Pick an affordable school that you like and go forth to make the most of your college experience.
