Cluster 23: Inside Performing Arts: Interdisciplinary Explorations of Performance in

Has anyone taken this cluster? How's the courseload? Is it interesting?

bump pleassssssssssssssse

I took this course last year. It's nothing like I expected. Basically each professor takes turns lecturing--each on his or her own particular specialty. I expected a lot more fun and interesting material, but a lot of it was really random. For example we learned about middle eastern music and instruments, trance, ritual dancing, etc. It was all kind of boring in my opinion. Also, to do well in the class you basically have to be a fairly good writer, not joking. People who started off getting B's and C's on their first couple of papers kept getting the same grades. I started off with a B+ and generally stayed towards the B+, A- route on all the papers. 1st quarter = one 2 page paper a week which can get kind of annoying but is usually fairly easy to crank out. 2nd quarter = two 5-6 page papers if I remember correctly. You do get to attend some relatively interesting performances though. Last year we went to like 3 dance performances and a play. There is a lot of reading (that I never did, actually) which can be pretty boring. The plays assigned are pretty interesting though. Out of the four TA's we had, people generally only liked two of them--Jennifer and Yael. I had Yael and she was amazing, best TA I had all year. Avoid Rose and Heidi at all costs. Overall I'm pretty glad I took it just because it was a nice GPA boost for me, but as far as intellectually stimulating course material--I would search elsewhere, but that's just me.

Oh just in case you can somehow pick which TA you get if you do end up enrolling, their full names are
Jennifer Wells
Rose Beady
Yael Prizant
Heidi ? I forget

Thanks for the informative description. What do you need to do to get an A (besides write excellent papers?). What do you need to study for the finals/exams? I heard you have to memorize and recite poems and plays - true or false?

:] PLEASE HELP.

BUMP 10char :)
