I've got pretty solid leadership (captain of water polo, first chair bassist in jazz groups, head volunteer) and decent test score (32 on ACT), and I am applying to Claremont ED. Can the water polo coach help me get in at all? What do you think my chances are?? Thanks

If you want to be on the Stag water polo team, the recommendation of the coach can make a big difference in improving your odds of acceptance. If you haven’t connected with the coach, do so immediately. Also, at this point, the most important thing you can do is write great essays.

Yeah I’ve spoken with the coach. My essays are pretty solid. Do athletes get a little breathing room when it comes to test scores etc?

Yes. Additionally, water polo is a pretty big deal in Claremont. If you want Pomona over CMC then give Pomona your ED as you’re probably a lock w/what you mentioned here. If you prefer CMC than by all means go with that decision and you should be fine. Good luck.
