I was wondering what everyone thought the relative advantages disadvantages were between UCLA and CMC. Cost is pretty much negligible b/c I was offered scholarships and financial aid to make the two schools cost nearly the same amount.

I'm from northern california and have strong interests in government / polisci and internat relations. A friend told me that cmc has a really strong reputation for govt and for law school admissions as well. how true is this in comparison to ucla?

also, and finally, location wise, what are people's views on the two? I've been to UCLA a lot and do love the campus, but i've never been to cmc.

thanks for any and all thoughts on the topic.

wow. they're so completly different schools. cmc is tiny, ucla is huuuge. ucla is like greek central, cmc doesn't have a greek life. ucla is in a city, cmc is in thr burbs.

at CMC your classes will be taught by profs. as opposed to ucla where you will be in a huge lecture hall watching a teachers assistant teach from a tv monitor.....

where in norcal are you from? what high school?

I guess my main question is what's the comparison between their government programs, because i can work out issues involving location and size. I'm just really unaware of what their respective reputations are in terms of polisci / government. I gather that they're both strong, but is one better than the other?

i'm from el cerrito high, about 5 minutes from uc berkeley

UCLA is huge but exciting. Probably many more classes, also in a fun city. CMC is well-respected for its small classes, intense teaching and affiliations with numerous area corporations. They hyave a lot of internships and you are almost guaranteed a job when you get out at a corporation where you have worked during school. A much more hands-on approach to UCLA's more theoretical approach. Both will serve you well for law school but I think of UCLA as a more traditional law-school feeder. My mom went to UCLA undergrad and IL law. I applied to UCLA and CMC and Berkely. Got into Cal and UCLA and am waitlisted at CMC.
UCLA definitely has more to do.

i have a friend who interned on capitol hill last summer...said that CMC was like the school everyone was talking about. I was pretty impressed by that and it became clear to me that CMC is a great place to be for gov't/poli sci.
