Please note; I did say "rumor"

I thought CMU always (or, at least, often) accepted more males than females.

So, so sorry about my poorly worded sentance!! Only 6 of just the ACTING group are female! I don't know about MT.

Two years ago when my D was an applicant to CMU, they definitely talked about how they do take more males than females (oh to be a male! considering less guys audition in the first place!). They take a total of 10 for MT and 18 for Acting (all sexes). In my D's year, there were only THREE MT females! My D was on the Priority Waitlist for Acting (though was trying for MT). I don't know how many females they took for Acting but surely it was less than half (half would be 9 and so if they told you six, that sounds about right). Looking back on it, I realized I was not sure it was worth all the money to fly and audition there as the odds from 1200 for a female with perhaps as little as 3 MT slots (my D's year) and perhaps as little as 6 Acting slots, just were such LONG SHOT odds, no matter the level of talent. Frankly, we were shocked our D got the Priority waitlist thing at CMU for Acting, given the long odds and also that she had the LEAST amt. of training in acting compared to voice and dance. We have no drama classes at all here. Truth be told, I hoped my D did not get off the waitlist for acting as the temptation given how great the drama program is would be there but her passion is MT. She totally moved on as she was in at her first choice and so didn't care about the waitlist at that point, as it was for acting. But since it is quite likely that the majority of you don't get in (sorry to be a downer but the reality is what it is), do NOT take it to heart. A rejection from CMU doesn't mean you do not have talent or won't get in elsewhere. Having a BALANCED list of odds is crucial in this process. ONLY going for these long shot odds schools is a mistake that I see some (not you guys) have made. That said, my D's friend, three years ago, got off the waitlist for MT at CMU (there are only a few girls in her class). However, I think many who get the CMU offer take it but obviously sometimes they do go to that Priority Waitlist. Good luck....maybe you won this "lottery"...just kidding...the odds seem that long to me with this school realisticly! I'm talking ANYONE, not the posters above, please realize.

My son got a call last night from CMU, and he has been accepted for MT! We were told that they were taking 10 for MT, no mention of how many of each gender.

Bravo to your son!

Congrats to your son, once again from both of us! He has so many wonderful choices :-)

congrats Breatheasy, you must love going to the mailbox, but how will you guys make this decision? will you revisit colleges?

Hey does CMU make phone calls to all their accepted students?

Gulp, that's what I'd like to know...or rather, that's what I'm fearing...

Anyone hear of anyone accepted who hasn't gotten a call? Also, someone said CMU would post the results online...does that include theatre/MT or just general admission?

I beleive they post your admission decision on their online secured page for you (check "where am I in the process?" under the Admissions page and have your ID number they sent you when they acknowledged receiving your application). However, I don't think decisions are formally posted yet since S received a call on Tuesday telling him he's admitted to MT and his page online still shows no admision decision. Good luck to all....what a stressful time!

Apparently, three days after they send out the letters (not the phone calls) is when they post the admission online..im not entirely sure though..
