CMU 2018 Transfer

I couldn’t find any transfer thread, so I’d like to start one.

I am applying to the business school as a transfer student from a CCC. I’d be happy to help out, if anyone has any questions. Also I found this cool report (for Tepper): https://tepper.cmu.edu/-/media/files/tepper/extranet/academic%20programs/business/ba%20postgrad%20report%202016%20pdf.pdf?la=en

I am applying for Mellon college of science
I currently study at a top 15 engineering state school

@Shloak What are your stats?

bump

I applied as a transfer to Tepper UG as well. Should receive admission decision NLT April 1st, no?

I’m applying to CMU as a transfer as well.

Here are my stats:

20 Y/o, Female, Asian/Pacific Islander, Out of state, community college transfer
Major: Computer Engineering / Computer Science
Transfer Credits: On a quarter basis… I will have 155+ when I transfer (this is about 108 semester based)
GPA: Will be 3.81-3.84 when I finish (kinda low but I took a bunch of classes I didn’t necessarily need… my last two quarters will be 4.0’s)
Extra curriculars: solid. nothing too outstanding or out of the ordinary. i have some hackathon experience, several hours of volunteer experience, and am heavily involved on campus.
Essay: strong… could be a little risky but i had a few people read it and they said it was good
Professor Recommendation: I have 1 from my math professor
SAT subject scores: ehh… I really do poorly under timed exams. I don’t see how I am expected to answer 75 physics questions in 60 minutes and do outstandingly lol
Resume: strong
HS: really bad. but i made a huge improvement in college and have been taking college level classes for 3 years (since I was 17)

Good luck to us all! honestly i am not expecting to get in… lol. Also my fasfa was a little late and I think even if I did get in I wouldn’t recieve enough aid to attend.

Anyone know how difficult Tepper is? @BruiserBrigade where did you get April 1 from? I wasn’t expecting a reply till mid April.

Has anyone recently been asked to submit missing/additional document? I just received an email today from an admission officer regarding one of my applicaiton documents. I think the first wave of decisions will come out soon.

I haven’t been asked, but I’ve submitted everything already. I hope we hear back soon!

YAY they finally finished my application! this is my “reach” school & probably won’t get in but I am happy they finally received all of my supporting documents lol

I wonder why a school as good as CMU has so few transfer applicants.

@rubberducky123 I hope so. & they took forever in receiving my transcript… turns out they can’t open links that are emailed to them (my transcript was sent through the student clearing house) & i had to have my advisor email her my information.

@Vincent1997 i think it’s because everyone wants to go there & their program is either full or has very few spots… which they give to freshmen

Yeah but look at UPenn. Barely anyone gets in, yet a lot of people apply.

@Vincent1997 what’s your major?
& yeah some schools are so selective idek. for example i was going to apply to harvey mudd but they are only accepting 4 transfers this fall. FOUR. lol. out of hundred of applicants…

Tepper Business School. Yeah unfortunately stern, Wharton and Cornell are just as bad. They all accept only like 2-4 students. I hope tepper is better, but I don’t really know.

@Vincent1997 yeah. i applied to cornell as well. all of my out of state choices are serious reaches lol but it would be cool to still get an acceptence later… even if i i have to reject if i don’t get enough aid

Just make sure to do the math before rejecting any school. For example In finance Cornell’s salary is $20,000 more than Illinois, even though they are both great schools. If you have to take out an extra loan, but get a much higher salary in return then it’s well worth it.

@Vincent1997 i would take out all the loans to go to CMU or Cornell lol. it’s just that even loans won’t cover everything… haha

I see. That sucks. I hope you get enough aid :slight_smile:
