CMU Acting Decisions?

Hey, everybody! I just logged onto the CMU "Where Am I in the Process" thing, and it says that "Committee Review" or something to that nature was completed March 3. The "Decision" box, however, is blank... I'm assuming this means that they just haven't decided yet or something? Does anybody know? I think someone on CC said that they start notifying March 15, which is tomorrow, but I just read in another thread that they've already started calling people Friday... Does anybody have any word on this? Also, do they telephone people or e-mail or postal mail or what?

Thanks!

Hey operationgold – one of my friends who lives in Minnesota (met her through unifieds) got called and accepted on Friday to CMU. I’m ecstatic for her, but also a bit nervous because Im not sure if they do all the phone calls in one day. I guess we’ll see in the next week or so

Best of luck to you and everyone else who auditioned!

Thanks. Good luck to you, too! Has your application status been changed or is it blank like mine? sigh… This is gonna be a fun couple of days, right? You wouldn’t happen to know about how/when they notify about wait lists, would you?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but do you know what your friend-who-got-in’s audition was like? Did they send her from one room to the other or what? Thanks again! If you couldn’t tell, I’m a bit nervous too…

The Priority Waitlist comes by mail and doesn’t involve a call. It comes later.

Thanks, soozievt. Since they’ve apparently already began accepting people last Friday, do you happen to know if they admitted EVERYONE last Friday, or just some people?

I have no way of knowing if they made all the calls. But if they called people for Acting, they take about 18 and so that is not a lot of calls to make. CMU doesn’t take “extras” like many schools do but rather takes the exact number of slots in the class. Then, they eventually send letters to a short Priority Waitlist in case any of the accepted students do not choose to matriculate. Those wait list letters in the past (in my D’s year anyway) came out around April 1.

Two of my friends got calls from Purchase two years ago. One was received in February the other in early March. Who knows? Ugh I know their intakes are different but I’m just trying to hold out for a day or two before I let it die I guess.

A rumor says that CMU’s acting calls on Friday were only to men.

That would be unfortunate news for me.

Theatermom: Where did you hear that rumor from? I think it’s false, 'cause the post Actor made (#2 on this thread) says that a FEMALE friend of his was accepted on Friday…

My “Decision” is still blank. However, I don’t even have a committee review section. The most recent thing I have on my list is “Application Complete” on March 11 – whatever that means. My friend’s audition was similar to mine, she was sent to both Kaf and Barbara. I’m not sure about the details, but she seemed to feel that it had gone well at the time, as did I. We will see though soon enough haha.

And yes, my friend who got called friday is a female. So I’m sure that rumor was just a rumor.

Oh, I also just read this at the bottom of the CMU status page:

“The Carnegie Mellon Office of Admission intends for all students to receive their official notification of admission decisions and financial aid awards through the mail and not on this display. Due to this, decision and financial aid award information will not appear on this display until three days after the letters have been mailed to you. We apologize in the event that these notification letters fail to reach you before you view the data on this display.”

So they delay the online notification three days from when they send out letters. Just a heads up.

Yeah, I was sent to both Barbara and Kaf too. I’m pretty sure that it’s a good thing to see them both.

And about that notice you found on the bottom of the status page: It doesn’t say anything about phone calls… Do you think that they call everyone who’s accepted or just some and e-mail/mail the rest? I’m assuming they’ll call everyone… What’s the point in only calling a couple people, right?

I’m sorry operationgold7, but I believe all acting calls have probably been made. I spoke to my coach yesterday and she said approximately 11 kids she knew of had already been contacted. That was midday yesterday…and I know CMU is only taking 14 actors this year. I know a few MT’s have been called, but I believe today and tomorrow is when Gary will be making the rest of MT calls. I have an inkling however that Barbara has finished making Acting calls…but there could be a couple left, who knows! One mom from last year who’s D got into MT recalls that calls had trickled out very slowly last year as well. Her daughter did not get called till some days after the initial calls had started…she had been very disappointed thinking she did not get in, but then eventually received a call! So hang in there!

And it is a very good thing to be sent from one auditor to the other. We shouldn’t, however, look into that too much. There are many extremely talented kids they meet who they send to the other, but in the end, they must narrow it down to a very very small group of kids to accept. There is still some hope, BUT if you are not accepted in the end, you should be very happy you were able to audition for both! That is a sign they were interested!
