Does CMU give preference to african americans in certain majors?

Three bumps and two threads within 24 hours on the same topic? Seriously?

I would have otherwise responded to your question, but now… nope.

I’ll follow Kate’s lead and reply:

Harvard does!

Seriously kiddies-- have some patience

And make sure your email matches your CC ID, that will impress everyone at all the schools you’ll be applying to.

Every school looks at competent URMs-- what’s your point exactly or the question? Affirmative Action 101 – if you are qualified, of course being a URM is an advantage in every major (except African American Studies I suppose) in every institution (except CalTech).

^ And the UCs.

I’m sorry I posted it several times my parents were stressing me with the question last night (and this morning) and I needed an answer to shut them up lol & Yes harvard521@******** is my email… Thanks for your responses anyway. :)

I don’t know whether CMU gives preference to African-Americans in majors, per se but I’m sure with a quick google search you can find some majors that African-Americans are under-represented in.

Off the top of my head, you might have a good shot at, say, some of the more technical fields: computer science, electrical-engineering.

I would not recommend you chose your major based on whether your race is under represented in that area. Honestly. do not chose a technical field if you are not of that mind, it will be torture!

As an African American, you will have an advatage at most schools, assuming that your stats are in the ballpark.

I would never choose a major for the sole reason of sneaking passed admissions. I already applied and was just wondering if a major like Chemistry would be an extra plus.
