Do any of you with experience have recommendation for a nice hotel near to CMU? Audition is 1/18, so excited!

We are heading there in February, I just googled to find this:
[Accommodations - Carnegie Mellon University | CMU](http://www.cmu.edu/about/visit/accommodations.shtml)

I am looking at one of the ones w/the asterisk. We personally prefer a Hampton Inn whenever possible, free breakfast & wi fi & usually are very nice hotels. Be sure to check the parking fees, just found out how expensive parking can be in Philadelphia, so now I’m checking that on everyone’s web page!

Break a leg!

There is a recent post about this I’m trying to find it for you.

The list on CMU’s site is comprehensive. All of the Oakland hotels would be good as CMU is in Oakland, and you will get a real feel for the area, University of Pittsburgh, etc. Those would be closer to campus than the downtown ones, which is a bus or cab ride away (but closer to Point Park if you’re inclined to kill two birds with one stone). The Hampton Inn in the Oakland column is actually right nextdoor to the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Point Park’s performance space (Point Park’s Playhouse is not on their campus, but in Oakland).

In the shadyside/east end section, the Courtyard by Marriott Shadyside/Oakland and the SpringHill Suites Bakery Square (brand new) are very convenient to CMU too. The rest in that column are B&B types.

I’m guessing, but I’ll bet most of these on the list run a shuttle to or near CMU from the hotel.

The Marriott Shadeyside runs a shuttle. The cons for us were the mandatory valet parking fee and the variability of the time when the restaurant opened for breakfast. The price was also a bit steep in the summer. I stay at Marriotts frequently, and this place fell a bit short. The location was great though!

I booked a reservation at the Hampton Inn listed on CMU’s site. I called about 4 others on the list also and the Hampton had the best CMU rate for that weekend. Plus, there is a shuttle that runs every hour that goes to the campus and other downtown areas.

Hampton Inn is convenient but IMHO doesn’t give you a good feel for Shadyside/CMU area, better for Point Park or U Pitt. Depending upon your budget - our favorite place to stay, hands down after making the trek there the past (almost) 4 years, is the Shadyside Inn. It’s more of a converted apartment style - most the housing all around it is where your student would likely live. Kitchenette helps with eating expenses BYO and no parking fees. Highly recommend it. Many of the MT students families stay there when visiting for shows and it can range in size from a studio to a 2 bedroom, depending on needs.
