researchmaven – it is true that cc and Allied are a small subset but the connections are many between these kids and everyone else. In years past, when the calls went out, there was usually more noise than what we’ve seen here so far.

The kids who do the surfing around here and on FB must be fairly gender specific. My son is oblivious to this site and the Allied whatever. And, I must admit I’m grateful for that. He just told me today that his life would be much more relaxed if I would quit telling him about news I hear about on here. HAHA! I should probably take his advice. But, I think I’ll have some Bailey’s and coffee with CC instead.

Of course, he could be a closeted member of both CC and Allied… and might just be laughing his head off at me right now for posting this… so…

^^Hahaha Acting720, love it, and I do think there’s a bit of a gender divide when it comes to that stuff! My son did finally confess to lurking on CC recently, although he has yet to create an account or posts…at least as far as I know… ?

Don’t they only call 12 people? That doesn’t take this long.

Since it’s a school day, I presume we can relax until at least three? Though many of the applicants will be in rehearsals after that.

Actor12, I was wondering the same thing. Then I thought, they’d have to admit more than 12 to yield a class of 12, right? And second-guessed myself, because most people admitted to CMU would choose to go there, right? But my third-guessing reminded me that it’s one of the most expensive schools in the country. Who knows. This is madness. I’m keeping all this strictly to myself and not sharing it with the rest of the family. Why burden my son with his mother’s neurosis about an impossible-to-know situation? So I vent here on College Confidential!

There are definitely more than 12 kids admitted. Total between all of drama (acting, MT, production, directing) is closer to 60 admitted students. It’s right on their website.
And yes, not all kids accept their offer, so they continue down the list. I know a girl that got into acting last year and turned it down. Not everyone they want, wants them! and yes it is very expensive.
Also remember not everyone is on cc. For example there is only one name on the Acceptance list under Tisch so far, which means only one cc follower got in early decision. Clearly many more got in.
Good luck everyone!

Ok so my so was extremely disappointed last night. Wasn’t even going to tell him about “the calls”. Thanks to FB he knew they were being made. However, no one on FB posted that they received a call. I don’t think he’s as anxious now. If calls havent been made and are going to be made today and he doesn’t get one he now knows that he can survive the disappointment. He is now talking about the wonderful choices he does have.

Remind all your kids that not getting into CMU probably has nothing to do with their talent. CMU is an usual program that is looking for and grooming future stars. Leading men and ladies. Not character actors.
I know one guy and one girl that got in last year. Yes, they were very very talented. But they were also beautiful. Take a look at their graduating class…
[CMU School of Drama | Showcase 2013 / Acting](http://www.drama.cmu.edu/177/showcase-2010-acting)
All the guys are gorgeous and most are above 6 feet. If your child is not this “type” chances are they are not getting in.

While many schools and programs admit more students than slots available in order to yield their desired number, CMU doesn’t do that. They actually admit the exact number of acting and MT students that they want in the class and no extras. Then, they keep a short “priority waitlist” (which by the way, is released at a later date than the acceptance calls), which they go to if someone doesn’t take their offered spot (and some do not opt to enroll who are accepted). I know this from years of watching their process, but also my own daughter was put on the Priority Waitlist for Acting in her year and also has a friend who got in off that waitlist in a previous year. If you accept to keep your spot on the Priority Waitlist (and they do give you your financial aid package at that time), and you are offered admission off that list later on (which if it even happens, is likely after May 1), you have 48 hours to deposit and accept the offer or not.

That video was hilarious. One good-looking kid after another.

Reality of the business, I guess.

Just watched the CMU video. DAMN! I told my son to wear his retainer!!!

^^Bahahaha, Muttle! Mine has always adamantly refused to get braces (much to my financial relief) but now is starting to think that maybe his “distinctive” teeth could be a problem down the road…Definitely not CMU material! Thank goodness there are programs who see and appreciate them for who they are, flaws and all.

Hahaha I thought you would all appreciate that!
:)

Good grief, the acting world needs more character actors than leading men and women. What is this, a beauty contest? Or maybe everyone has to take a makeover class before senior year?

On the other hand, now I’m thinking my son might get that phone call after all? He is 6’3" and has been told (to his chagrin) that he is the All-American leading man “type.” He finds character roles more appealing and was never happier than when he was cast as a mass murderer in a television re-enactment.

Has anyone watched the TV show “White Collar”? Its star, Matt Bomer, is a CMU alum and drop-dead handsome. But he isn’t tall.

Re: the showcase video, I’m pretty sure I got lost on that cobblestoned street when we visited Pittsburgh a couple of years ago. And I’m also pretty sure I’d lie awake at night worrying about my kid driving in a car with so much distraction (seriously, how did they not wreck in that opening clip?) (just kidding y’all, no rebuttals please!). Good luck to everyone still waiting, and I know your kids will all have great choices whether or not they look like “Movie Stars”! :)

Goodness those are some beautiful kids! I have to admit it makes me a little sad that my D wasn’t accepted to the tech program. Keeping my fingers crossed for y’all!

Well, they probably all have really ugly feet . . .

The girls were a bit more diverse, but after watching that, I’m thinking maybe my D is not the CMU “type.”

Just told my husband to watch video on YouTube He said he met some of those kids at the school. They were really nice, down to earth kids who made the kids auditioning feel welcome. They were not dolled up at all, looked like “everyone else” and…THEY SEEMED OF AVERAGE HEIGHT!!! (He should have gotten their autographs though)
