CMU Class of 2025 - Regular Decision

I am going to call the financial aid dept. Maybe they made a mistake? accepted to Haverford, an 80K a year school and offered a much better price

That’s not clear. I would assume it is the total.

Edit: Actually it might be priority, because you don’t have to accept position on regular waiting list, you’re automatically on it, if you’re waitlisted.

I will reach out to financial aid too. We wondered if it were a mistake as well.

Oh we didn’t submit FAFSA…

Receiving such a bad number kind of took the joy out of acceptance. Obviously I will clarify that number. I am just a little shocked

Yep, looks like this would easily be 300k education for us.

Is it CS again? Did you get scholarship? Are you going to accept?

Its college of engineering. I don’t think I will accept. It’s too expensive. I am in California so Cal and UCLA are good choices for me

Makes sense. In-state is much less expensive, and Cal is a top school so why pay extra?

At CMU did you apply to School of Computer Science as first choice, or was College of Engineering your first choice?

wow! mine would be about 220k. My max is 60k for 4 years

That’s not good if that number is for priority list. I am kind of thinking it is unethical for CMU to collect almost $3M non refundable deposit ($800 each) from 3,579 student families but only accept ~4% from the list.

Son waitlisted. He got in GT, UCLA, UCSD/UCD regents, UCSB, UCI and UCSC

No you don’t have to pay $800 just to be on priority waiting list. You only have to pay $800 within 72 hours of being accepted from the priority waiting list. So if you’re not accepted you pay nothing.

College of Engineering

You are right. I got it wrong. It is after. But still 4% acceptance from waitlist is still crazy.

That’s typical for most universities.

Here’s some fun reading about waitlists in general.

My son got waitlisted for comp sci as well. He’ll opt in for the priority wait list. Waiting on NYU on the 1st and ivy’s on the 6th. Got into BU but if doesn’t get in anywhere else, it will come down to Northeastern or University of Maryland. He’s bummed On not getting in but will be fine no matter where he goes.

I think NYU announced decisions will be out by March 31. One less day to wait!

What if you get accepted at priority waiting list and decide not to go. Do you still need to pay the $800 deposit?

Same - did not understand unless typo…
