oh man...I just called, the lady told me that I will have my decision by the 30th/31st..so it will probably be sent out the beginning of next week..furthermore, realizing that decisions will probably go from acceptances to rejections, I guess I lost the gamble with carnegie-mellon..=/

I just called. All they would tell me is

Letters started to go out today and will continue to be sent out in batches until we're done.

They wouldn't let me check the status of my particular app. How did you guys do it?

Call

Ask

Ask

Demand
If no luck, repeat steps 1-4.

why are they telling you guys that they got sent out today if i received mine today?... maybe mail travels really really fast here in pittsburgh? :) ooo and there's no postmark on it so i can't check when it was processed

I asked twice and she said no...

the lady said the same thing that is written above in italics

Lex, did you get accepted..most likely I believe...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TO CIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

probably won't be able to go there because of the incredibly high tuition

o well..Pitt here I come!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!

ooo thanks a ton!! they send the acceptances out in a letter that says "official fat letter" on the front... not obvious at all haha... my mailman knew before me! :)

i live in NJ ...when do you think the letter will be mailed out?

NJ..hmmm...well you're not really that far away...i think it might also depend on when you applied? I applied back in early November, so maybe I received mine so early because of a mixture of application date and location? who knows but BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!

I applied in November too for ED but didn't get in so I reapplied. I won't get my letter until 28/29th though...blahh

xindianx, what college in CMU did you apply to?

Lex, if you know you can't go because of tuition; don't be shy about it.
Call up the office and let them know that you are considering attending if they can up their financial aid.
A guy two doors down from me did this and was able to get the financial aid he wanted. This might apply even more this year since they raised tuition (mostly to hurt internationals) in order to provide more aid to entice matriculation.

If it works, great. If it doesn't, well you weren't attending anyways :) Just remember it never hurts to try and you probably have to talk to the HUB or some upper-level office instead of the normal admissions ladies.

If you recieve a better package at another school that you are accepted to and if the school is comperable to CMU you can use that to try to increase your financial aid award. There is a form that you fill out from admissions and if I remember correctly it is a 48 hour turn around for an answer.

acceptedalready and wct, thanks for the info, advice, and encouraging words! i will definitely talk to them about the financial aid thing, as CMU is really my dream school...but, to tell you the truth, i really have my heart set on Pitt... they have a great bioengineering program and i will attend honors college there...plus i am trying to get early acceptance into UPMC, which requires undergraduate Pitt... wow i was almost hoping that i got rejected from CMU so that i wouldn't have to make these decisions haha :)

I am sure you will be successful no matter which campus you are on. GOOD LUCK!!

I applied to the Mellon College of Science, (stats: 1400 sat, 4.0 gpa, lots of ecs/leadership positions/lots of volunteering, good essays)

They're mailed out today? Cool. Well, I live close enough to Pittsburgh (Cleveland), so I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Why doesnt someone just call in and say," I got my letter today, and it said i was accepted, but i was just calling to make sure, since that it is close to april "fools day" the first, I hope my friends arent trying to prank me, the letter looks pretty official" Its got to work...
