CMU Drama Audition

My daughter, just has an Audition yesterday, in NYC.
She thinks that her Audition went very well. She was Auditioning for 2 Drama Teachers, one of them was Barbara. They both asked her to do 3 monologues and sing. They gave her a few corrections ans asked an improvized as weel, then complimented her on her performance and ability to pick up quilkly and follow the directions. When Barbara was talking to her, she asked where else my D Applied and when she hear that she Auditioned for Purchase, Barbara said “I think Purhase will accept you”.
CMU is a Dream School for my D and she realy wants to get in, but that phrase kind of made her nervous about her chances in CMU. Anyone else has a similar Experience?

I wouldn’t read too much into that. If anything, it could mean she thought your daughter was a good actress, and CMU puts a lot of emphasis on the acting, even for MTs.
As an aside, my son was accepted at Purchase and CMU a few years back. The Purchase acceptance came first, so when Barbara asked where else he had been accepted, he could tell her Purchase. I’ve always suspected that helped him get a good merit scholarship from CMU. Maybe you’ll have similar luck.

Pretty similar. Auditioned with two songs first and then was told, “You know what I am going to ask you, right?”and I said, “Something legit” (I sang one belt and one ballad, but it was in my lower range”). I pulled out a third song. He complimented my voice, and told me I could be more confident with legit and I said it was something I was hoping to continue to develop in college. That being said, I saw my score sheet and he gave me a three out of five. Meh. At that point, I knew he wasn’t going to consider me for musical theatre. That score’s not going to get anyone anywhere. Then I did my monologues for Gary. He liked them both and asked for a third. He asked me a few questions (about 5 minutes worth) and then said he wanted Barbara to see me. “Make sure she sees all your pieces.” I went to another room and did all three for Barbara. She asked me to take a seat, and interviewed me for about ten minutes. Her last words were, “You deserve to be in a top program.” But honestly, I don’t think she meant THEIR top program. I came out of it thinking, “OH MY GOD! CARNEGIE LIKED ME! THEY REALLY LIKED ME!” But I think they are nice and super encouraging to everyone, and there are just so many good people out there. I am still waiting for an admission decision (and obviously with baited breath, as I am trolling these boards looking for insight), but the realist in me knows odds are not in my favor.
