I haven't applied yet (i'm in my sophmore year :)), but I plan to apply to Georgia Tech and I'm totally serious about it. When I do apply, my major will be Biomedical engineering/sciences. My stats are:

---- Asian now living in Georgia

---- AP classes taken by end of high school:
- AP World Hist.
- AP US Hist.
- AP English Lang.
- AP Chemistry
- AP Physics
- AP Calculus
- AP Govt/Eco
- AP English (12th)
- AP Psychology (maybe)
- all other core classes taken are Honors
- all other classes taken (not core)--honors (if available)

----PSAT (lol... haven't taken SAT yet  )
- Composite:1260
- I know the score is bad, but I'll be working on it and it should improve.

---- PLAN ( Practice ACT)
- Composite: 24
- This should improve also.

---- GPA
- Unweighted: 3.75
- Weighted: 4.5 (or something close to it :))
- This should and will stay pretty balanced throughout highschool.

---- Volunteer Work
- None yet (oops!) but will have some by end of high school. Thankfully, I have two more years to work on it. :)

---- Ecs
- Weak point! oh well...
- bunch of school clubs:
- Academic Team, Mock Trial, Beta Club, Y-club, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Literary Team (will stay with these Sophmore, Junior, and Senior year)
- leadership position in Y-club, and Literary team.
- Youth Leadership Program.
- GHP nominations
- Foreign Language Speaking Comp.

---- Degree Type
- Dual with Distinction (combines main core classes and tech classes)

Well, these are my stats... So do I have a chance? My essay for entrace should not be a problem.

Ure workload is not bad.

I wouldnt say its as strenuous as mine, while AP is one course, IB Subjects are 2 year courses. But its still tough. Id Say you have a really good shot.

How are your math scores?

"while AP is one course, IB Subjects are 2 year courses"
oh! i didn't know that. i haven't even heard of IB courses offered in my school - is it an international thing? wow - ur work load must be stressful. do u get a chance to breathe on occassion??? lol!

math scores: 620 (yikes! ) -- bad but will improve 'cuz i didn't prepare for the one that i took. ur math scores are awesome! did you study for it? if so.. what prep book did you use?

btw, did you take the ACT or have any volounteer work?

oh and sorry 'bout badgering you with my questions...lol!:p i'm just curious about how much i should try to do in highschool to get in.:) please and thank you :)

Yeah I have loads of volunteer work, like Manufacturing Items for the Needy, Horseback Riding for the Disabled and others.

I didnt study for the SAT. But I regret it now, so study hard especially english.

IB is very stressful, we have 6 subjects which we take for 2 years, with another course called theory of knowledge as well as many requirements such as a Group 4 Project and Extended essay and world literature essay.

So it is demanding. But if you take enough APs, your workload will look very strenuous and the Unis will look at that positively.

GaTech like to see Math scores above 650, Last year the Competitive SAT score was 1180 and above, the competitive GPA was 3.4 and above.

So dont worry about it.

thanks a bunch ferret...wow really stats driven.

kk:) thanx ferret! for the stats and the answers :)

Anytime!!!

I just found out I have a 3.4 Avg GPA.

I started out in 9th grade-> 3.2
Slipped to a 3.1 in 10th grade
Jumped up to a 3.8 in 11th grade.

So I think Im screwed.

Well, Am I?

If you say you are, then you are. Attitude determines everything. You are not able to control anything past sending off the application.

I'll bet ten bucks and a latte that you're in.

By the way, Ferrett, could you use that US News Service to fetch me Vanderbilt, NYU, and Washington and Lee, and Private Message me with them? You're not obligated, but thanks a ton if you do. And the best of luck!

Vanderbilt
