I was admitted by this program for 07fall term.
Can anybody say something about this program?
i actually dont have much knowledge about the repute of the professional ms degree, as i heard of that its first introduced from fall 2006.
How is the probability to go on Phd study in ECE CMU after earned this MS degree?

I suggest asking their graduate office and contacting some of their grad students.

Hi..
I too am facing the same dilemma. Whether your chances of getting in at CMU PhD increase if you do an MS from there itself. Please let me know if you get any additional info..Tks a lot..
Btw, it cannot have started from Fall 2006. I know a senior who completed MS ECE CMU in Fall 2005

You should check with the graduate office first, but, as far as I understand it, the main difference between the professional MS and the so-called PhD/MS program at CMU is that students in the latter take fewer classes and complete instead a research project, whereas, in the former, the degree is based almost exclusively on coursework only.

Generally speaking, the professional MS is seen as a terminal degree for students who want to specialize further in a certain area before heading out to jobs in industry. Students who wish to continue on to a PhD are encouraged to enter the PhD/MS program instead. In fact, PhD/MS research project reports are evaluated by a commitee of two ECE faculty who, in addition to accepting or rejecting the report, are also required to complete a "recommendation for continuation to the PhD program" form. If that recommendation is positive, I understand acceptance into the PhD program is more or less automatic.
