CMU ED chances

Not looking for a specific percent chance or anything because I know that’s not possible. I’m just looking for a general opinion on if my application is competitive and if not what I could improve on.

I’d say you’ve got a chance, but it’s a reach for anyone. You have VERY similar stats to my S20, so I wish you luck! I’m not sure what else you could do. And didn’t you already apply ED? My son did a week ago to CMU.

I’m hoping for good news come December for both of you! My son has a handful of other EA apps in, many matches and safeties. He’s submitted a couple RD and has a few more to do.

This is my predicted profile for next year not this year. By the way your son seems like a very qualified candidate, I wish him the best of luck!

Oh ok, @Thomasato1234 . That makes more sense. Good luck to you, too!

They’re both in the fully qualified category, but then it comes down to essays and other non-quantitative data. Given the low acceptance rate, I suspect the rate among fully qualified students is still 25-30%.

Not trying to water down, but for Asian male without big awards, I suspect the chance is even lower than 25-30% in fully qualified category.

I forgot to include a few math awards, also I am legacy if that does change anything.

I have applied ED to CMU as well. I attended SAMS this summer and loved it. I applied to the CMS school and want to double major in Mathematics/Machine Learning. I was placed in Concepts of Math this summer at CMU and received a 4.00. I am hoping that this helps with my application.
